When the corona pandemic hit Norway in March, it also immediately affected new car sales.
Suddenly, there was total silence in many auto shops and sales fell dramatically.
However, it wasn’t long before used car sales rebounded. And this fall there has been a very good evolution in new car sales.
The October figures are clear. They show that up to 12,948 new passenger cars were registered in Norway this month. It’s actually the best October figure to date, beating the previous record from October 2015.
Twice as big
Part of the reason for this is that this month there have been extensive deliveries of cars that have been ordered before. The best seller is the Volkswagen ID.3. This is a car that several thousand Norwegian customers have been waiting for a long time. In September, deliveries to customers finally began.
Volkswagen delivered a total of 2,889 cars in October. That’s almost twice as much as Toyota in second place, they finished with 1,576 cars. With that, Toyota by the way passed Audi, which after a fantastic start to the year should be tipped to third place. 587 Norwegians got a new Audi in October.
One thing may make electric cars cheaper for years to come
Sharp rise of Mercedes
So far this year, Audi’s sales are increasing as much as 47.1 percent, compared to last year. It is the great success of the e-tron electric car that accounts for almost all of Audi’s sales.
BMW, in fourth place, has delivered 6,824 cars in the first ten months of the year. Volvo in fifth place has 6,669 cars. Here may be a real pants before the end of the year. It depends on how quickly Volvo starts delivering its electric XC40, a car that has been ordered by several thousand Norwegians.
Hyundai ranks sixth in Norway with 6,567 cars, almost all electric. Then we find Mercedes increasing its sales by up to 129.5 percent this year, here the electric EQC is an important piece.
ID.3 arrived, while e-Golf disappears
Tesla out of the top 10
Skoda ranks eighth with 5,896 cars. Nissan ranks ninth with 4,752, while Peugeot, thanks to a sales increase of 50.1 percent, ranks tenth. Also here there is talk of a high proportion of electric cars.
With this, Tesla is now out of the top 10 in Norway. So far, 2020 has been a big step for the American electric car maker, the number of cars is 76.3 percent behind last year.
A total of 108,299 new cars were sold and registered as of October, according to figures from the Road Traffic Information Council (OFV). The corresponding figure last year was 121,096. In percentage terms, there is a decrease of 10.6 percent. Bringing it in in the last two months of the year can probably be difficult.
Here comes ashore, the car that many Norwegians have been waiting for for a long time.
