– There are many of us in the Oslo Labor Party who were surprised yesterday. The nominating committee has not taken into account the organization of the party. We want Barth Eide and Kamzy. A majority in the party have clearly stated this, and they have not taken it into account, Hasle Ap’s home team leader Mads Andreas Danielsen tells NRK.
It causes him that the nominating committee has no longer listened to the local teams.
– This shows that the committee has no contact on the ground and we must fix that, says Danielsen.
You are not alone.
It created strong reactions internally in the Oslo Labor Party when the nominating committee released its list of nominations on Sunday night. Shows internal discussion threads that NRK has learned about.
One of the things that has created reactions is that Espen Barth Eides is not on the list.
Espen Barth Eide issued an ultimatum to the Oslo Labor Party to be nominated for third place on the electoral list before the Storting elections. He didn’t want to be in fifth place on the list, as the nominating committee ended up offering, so he’s now off the list.
– I was motivated and wanted 3rd place. I am disappointed that I did not understand it. We’ll see what happens. I informed the committee that I was highly motivated but wanted a safe place. I have not withdrawn as a candidate, Barth Eide told NRK on Sunday.
I also want Kamzy taller
The committee named party leader Jonas Gahr Støre of Vestre Aker as the first candidate on the list. Then comes Zaineb Al-Samarai from Nordstrand in second place and Frode Jacobsen in third place.
The nominating committee is divided in fourth place.
A majority of six will have LO leader Trine Lise Sundnes in fourth place, while a minority of three will have Deputy Mayor Kamzy Gunaratnam.
In addition to Barth Eide’s rejection, many have been sparked by the fact that Kamzy Gunaratnam did not finish above fourth place, and only with the support of the minority.
The nominating committee list will contact the Oslo Ap party team and the AUF for consultation. Mads Andreas Danielsen believes that local teams should speak now.
– Who do you think will come out to accommodate Kamzy Gunaratnam and Espen Barth Eide?
– The party must now contribute its opinion on this. But I think Frode Jacobsen could have done a good job in fifth place.
– So you risk putting Frode Jacobsen in an unsafe place?
– I have great confidence in Frode, but Kamzy and Barth Eide are one of the biggest voter magnets we have, and we need them at the top, responds Danielsen.
Did not give an ultimatum
Frode Jacobsen says it will now be up to the December 3 nomination meeting to decide the final list.
– Why should I have the safe third place and not Espen Barth Eide?
– Espen has done a very good job as a parliamentary representative of the Oslo Labor Party, and I would like him to be ready to take fifth place. I accepted third place, and then it will be the nominations meeting that will finally decide this, he tells NRK.
Jacobsen emphasizes that the nominating committee asked him to take third place and that he himself has not issued an ultimatum.
– I feel that I have a lot to contribute and I am very motivated. The Labor Party must be represented throughout the city, and it is important that people who know Oslo are in the Storting.
– How important is it that two out of every three inhabitants of West Oslo are not in the top three?
– First of all, the list of the Labor Party in Oslo, as elsewhere, should give a representative expression to the whole city. I think it’s important that the part of the city, and the slums from which I am and have lived all my life, are also represented.
NRK failed to get a comment from Kamzy Gunaratnam on Monday, but writes the following in a Facebook post Monday afternoon:
“The last 24 hours have been, to put it mildly, out of the ordinary. Relying on dissent is not something to be done with joy. But hearing the overwhelming response from the party rank and file became crucial. However, I want to stop at it. Clearly this is a very personal process that I am entering. I know that my name will be considered from top to bottom in the coming weeks. It takes many of you to dare to participate in such a discussion. Above all, it takes courage. “
Defend work
Nominating committee chairman Tone Tellevik Dahl defends the nominating committee’s work. He points out that the committee has been almost exclusively unanimous, with only one dissent.
– Do critics think the nominating committee has been notably insensitive to input from home teams?
– I don’t experience it. The candidates we have proposed also have broad support in local teams, Tellevik Dahl tells NRK.
– Kamzy has been nominated by an overwhelming number of local teams for second place, but the nominating committee has placed her in fourth place along with Trine Lise Sundnes from LO. Why have you considered your candidacy in this way?
– We consider both 2nd and 4th place permanent for women. We have tried to find a composite team, both with new and experienced names. The majority on the committee ended with Zaineb Al-Samarai in second place, and dissent in Gunaratnam.
– Kamzy Gunaratnam and Espen Barth Eide are seen as voter magnets, why didn’t you find a place for them in a permanent place?
– A unanimous committee would nominate him in fifth place. It is not safe, but with Espen in such a place, we could have mobilized more to have increased the number of places. I observe that he says no to that place. It’s a shame, but it was his choice.
– When the frustration is as strong as it is now, do you do your job as chair of the nominating committee?
– I also register that there are many cheers for the candidate that we have proposed. Now it’s up to the local teams to comment on the list.
