KLM, affected by the crisis, will not benefit from a NKr 35 billion support package from the Dutch authorities. The reason is that the pilots reject a proposed salary freeze until 2025, Reuters reports Sunday.
The Dutch government imposed a pay freeze on pilots as a condition of the rescue package, which was to help KLM overcome the crown pandemic. The support included 1 billion euros in direct government loans.
– It is very disappointing, but we cannot continue with the loan now, says the Minister of Finance of the Netherlands, Wopke Hoekstra.
The pilots union claims that they have agreed to a pay freeze until March 2022, and that they cannot change this agreement on short notice. The ground and cabin workers union, on the other hand, has agreed to the government’s pay freeze for the next five years.
