The government is tightening the rules for close contacts

As part of clarifying the rules and guidelines, the government is now introducing a requirement that those who are in quarantine and develop symptoms must immediately isolate themselves until a possible negative test result is available.

The quarantine period, which is ten days, must be completed in its entirety, even if you get a negative response to the test.

It is already true that people who are infected with the coronavirus must be isolated at home, while close contacts of those infected with the virus must be quarantined.

Recommended three measures

Health Minister Bent Høie (H) notes that a significant proportion of the infection now occurs among people living together. Therefore, the Norwegian Health Directorate and the National Institute of Public Health have recommended three measures to prevent further spread of the infection.

– The government has followed the recommendations, which came into effect on Friday, October 30, it says in a press release.

Everyone who has been in close contact with an infected person should be quarantined. Now it is recommended to try them.

– Makes it possible to isolate infected household members and quarantine them faster. The 10-day quarantine period must be fully implemented, even if you get a negative response to the test, it is stated in the press release.

Distance to household members

To prevent family members from infecting each other, quarantined adults in the same household are encouraged to keep their distance at the same time. The advice applies between adult members of the household and will not prevent contact between children and parents.

– For many, it will be difficult to keep a distance from other family members in their own home. To prevent family members from infecting each other, municipalities have a duty to offer accommodation to infected people who do not have the opportunity to isolate themselves in their own homes. Several of the larger cities have their own hotels for infected people, Høie says.

Isolation is staying in your own home or in another suitable place of residence isolated from others as much as possible.
