Table jumbo Aalesund withstood both a penalty and Haugesund’s offense in Saturday’s victory.
HAUGESUND – AALESUND 0–1
Niklas Castro settled for the guests in a nasty rain.
Just towards the end of the game, Castro hit the fourth before the end. AaFK’s profile cushioned a weak punt and sent the ball into a goal over the goalkeeper and into the net. Along the way, he passed the crossbar and jumped the finish line.
With his fourth league goal of the year, Castro Aalesund achieved his first Elite Series away win since 2017. Last season’s supreme champions at level two had just one with three points in 2020 ahead of Saturday’s deal. It came in a 3-2 win over Start on July 29.

– It is difficult to describe the feeling I have now, because I have not felt it for a long time, Castro said in an interview broadcast by TVNorge.
With the result, Lars Arne Nilsen was also able to score his first points as bottom coach. He had lost his first seven games as head of the AaFK. In Haugesund, the Sunnmørings suddenly went to zero for the first time this year.
– I don’t remember the last time I saw those scenes in a closet. It was unreal. The guys are really looking forward to winning soccer games and we finally made it. We were a bit lucky, but we were also hoping to get a bar, Nilsen said.

Penalty bomb
The guests had to fight very hard in the pouring rain and gusts of wind to break the losing streak in nine games. Haugesund dominated long after the break, and after just over an hour, Niklas Sandberg was able to give FKH 1-0 from the penalty spot. But the goalkeeper of the visiting team, Gudmund Kongshavn, took the right path and saved with the body.
The hosts were punished after Daan Klinkenberg hit Mikkel Desler on the knee.
In the minutes that followed, AaFK was peppered with spikes. Kongshavn was right and had to be removed all the time. Six minutes into extra time, the goalkeeper was there again and secured Aalesund’s long-awaited triumph at the port.
The goalkeeper’s performance probably tasted extra good as Kongshavn was benched in eight straight games before the meeting with Haugesund.

Long way up
Before the break, the biggest opportunities came in the first quarter. And Haugesund was the most dangerous team in difficult conditions. First Ibrahima Wadji tested the shooting foot on a Desler dirt tractor, but Kongshavn went big and saved solidly.
Five minutes later, Peter Therkildsen tried to slip the back post 1-0. Under heavy pressure from Klinkenberg, he put the ball directly into Kongshavn.
With seven games to play, Aalesund stands with ten points. It is still hard for Nilsen’s team to avoid relegation. Starting in the qualifying position has 19 points with one game less played.
Haugesund is in 10th place with 28 points.
Next weekend, Haugesund will meet Brann in Bergen. Aalesund has a very difficult task ahead of him with an away game against league leader Bodø / Glimt.
