For the first time since 1993, more rains have been recorded in Oslo than in Bergen in October.
At the Blindern gauging station in Oslo, 205.9 millimeters of precipitation was recorded in October. That’s 145 percent above normal, which is 84 millimeters.
– October is the rainiest month we’ve had this year and it beats July by a good margin. With the exception of a few days without rainfall, most of it has rained, says state meteorologist Bente Wahl of the Meteorological Institute.
The second wettest gong in history
October this year is the second wettest ever recorded in Blindern. Only in 2014, when 211 mm of precipitation was recorded, we are more humid.
The Florida measurement station in Bergen received, however, 188.5 millimeters of precipitation, much less than usual in October. There is the normal 271 millimeters.
– Bergen has only received 70 percent of the rainfall that they usually receive. Although 188.5mm isn’t that far off the Oslo record list, it’s dry for Bergen.
It has only happened five times before since measurements began that Blindern has recorded more rainfall than Florida in October. The last time was in 1993, and before that it happened in 1959, 1960, 1974 and 1976.
– It has rained 21 out of 31 days. It is very humid to be in Oslo, because normally it does not rain much in October.
Danger of danger for the weekend.
But although November begins with rains in both the east and west, some things will soon normalize.
– During the week there will be a lot of western weather. Then it will be worse in the west and north, while we in the east will take shelter and have a good week, Wahl said.
But first, a low pressure will affect all of southern Norway and parts of central Norway. The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a warning for strong gusts in western Norway and Trøndelag this weekend.
– Saturday morning is quite hot across the country, but on Saturday and Sunday it will be very windy in western Norway and Trøndelag. During the afternoon and evening, precipitation falls across southern Norway. Sunday will also rain, Wahl said.
The wind will also pick up in northern Norway at night. Precipitation will especially fall south of Stad and Dovre, while central Norway and the north will escape this time.
– Return to normal Bergen weather
Wind and rainfall in southern Norway will continue on Monday, but then change a bit from Tuesday, Wahl said.
Then a low pressure comes in from the west that will hit the coast upwards, and the south and east will be protected. The western climate will remain stable.
– Then it will probably return to normal Bergen weather, Wahl laughs.
