José Mourinho made four changes during the break, but it didn’t help. Simen Juklerød’s Royal Antwerp became too strong for Tottenham.
ANTWERP REAL – TOTTENHAM 1-0:
Royal Antwerp took a break with a deserved 1-0 lead after Refaelov sent the home team to the lead after a gift pack from Ben Davies.
So Mourinho took a special grip during the break. The Portuguese made four substitutions, and before the clock passed 60 minutes he had exhausted all five substitutions.
But it didn’t help Tottenham to send both Son and Kane. Simen Juklerød and his teammates beat the great English team 1-0.
The Norwegian appeared several times in the Europa League game against Spurs, and could quickly enter the scorers list.
Ben Davies Gift Pack
José Mourinho made nine substitutions from Monday’s game against Burnley until Thursday’s meeting with Royal Antwerp. Maybe all exchanges did something with Tottenham, because they fought Antwerp in the first place.
The game started relatively calmly, but Simen Juklerød appeared several times down the left wing and reached various positions in the opening minutes.
It was also a Juklerød corner that was going to give the game the first chance. The Norwegian rounded a corner and Gerkens rushed in at high speed, but stunned the ball just outside the goal.
Tottenham took the lead in the match slightly out of the round, but the visiting team failed to generate decent chances. However, Antwerp achieved its spearhead Refaelov.
Haroun found Refaelov with a clever pass into Tottenham’s penalty area after the first half break. The Israeli shot and tricked Davies before firing. The striker landed a usable hit, but the shot went slightly over just under forty feet.
It should turn out that Tottenham was going to fight more with the Israeli striker throughout the match.
After half an hour of play, Ben Davies ruined it for the Spurs. The Welshman awkwardly lost the ball to Mbokani in a dangerous position, and the forward moved into the Spurs penalty area. Mbokani played perfectly for Refaelov who put the ball into the goal to make it 1-0 for the home team.
– A Davies gift pack that they ruthlessly explode, exclaimed TV 2 commentator Peder Mørtvedt after Antwerp took a well-deserved lead.
Antwerp was also close once more before the break, but Tottenham’s defense was avoided in the final second. Some harmless long shots from Bale were mostly the only thing Tottenham could offer in the first half, and the home side went into the break with a well-deserved advantage.
Mourinho with four substitutions during the break
José Mourinho was clearly not happy with what his team delivered in the first half, and replaced up to four players during the break. Form player Son was one of four replaced by Mourinho.
But although Mourinho prevailed, it was Antwerp who had the biggest chances early in the second half.
After 54 minutes, the home team received a penalty, Miyoshi played in favor of Mbokani, who from four meters put the ball over the goal in a totally inaccurate way. Nor is the Spurs’ optimal defensive game in that situation.
And just a minute later, Juklerød tried a phenomenon. In the absence of someone to hit the field, the Norwegian tested a balloon from 25 meters. Lloris stood out from the distance and had to come out in full force to beat Juklerød’s attempt to the corner.
Mourinho took his place again and took advantage of his fifth and final substitution in the 58th minute, and put Harry Kane.
After the hour, Tottenham seized the opportunity. Lucas Moura found Son in the penalty area. The South Korean took too good a time and his shot was blocked in the last minute by Seck.
And when Tottenham began to push Antwerp further back down the field, a huge counter attack suddenly opened up for Juklerød. The Norwegian was sent alone and had half the track to run. Juklerød had to finish completely depressurized only with Lloris, but he sent the ball over the goal.
Tottenham pushed on towards the end of the match, but the great English team failed to get the ball into goal and thus Antwerp secured a surprising victory over Spurs.
Tottenham’s next game is at home against Brighton on Sunday at 8.15pm.
