On Tuesday night, the Water and Sewer Authority will release more water in Akerselva from Maridalsvannet. So far in October, it has rained in Oslo more than twice the normal amount.

The Akerselva will therefore be wilder and more powerful than at the beginning of this fall. Since 2017 there has been no more water in the river than now.
– We are increasing from 20,000 liters of water (20 cubic meters) to 25,000 liters per second from Maridalsvannet, says communications manager Kjetil Bjørnsrud of the Oslo Water and Sewerage Authority.
– The reason is the same as before. Lots of precipitation and a large influx of water means that we raised the water level in Akerselva tonight by 20, says Bjørnsrud.
This is close to the level of a five-year flood, which is 27 cubic meters per second, according to the Norwegian Directorate of Water Resources and Energy (NVE).

It has been raining a lot in Oslo in recent days. So far in October, 176 millimeters of precipitation have fallen in Oslo, compared to 84 millimeters, which is normal for the month.
The precipitation has caused problems in the Oslo area. Tuesday night, Rv. 163 at Lørenskog station is closed due to flooding, and firefighters had to rescue three people from a car that was clogged with water up to the windows.

On Monday night, the Oslo Fire and Rescue Service responded to several incidents that they had to help out with bombs and other equipment.
In several places in central Oslo, streets have been partially flooded, including Møllergata and the Uelands gate.

Large water flow in the next few days
The Water and Sewerage Authority assesses the situation on an ongoing basis. Precipitation has been announced for Wednesday, before there is a suspension until Friday afternoon. But this weekend it may rain more.
– People should expect a large flow of water in the river in the future. On Sunday and Monday next week, even more rainfall is reported, he says.
