On Friday afternoon, a van came down from Dramsvegen on the steep and icy Holmboevegen with summer tires on the rims. The truck lost control and slid down the hill into a garden before being stopped by a wooden fence.
Both police and firefighters arrived at the scene shortly before 6 p.m.
Neighbor heard the car horn and ran out to see
In the cold there was also Veronica Meyer, who lives in the house downstairs where the truck was parked. It was explained to the police and then told iTromsø that he was inside the house when it happened.
– I only heard someone standing on the whistle and a crash when the wood was destroyed in the fence. Then I went out to check and then I saw that the car was parked, Meyer says.
Meyer has lived in the area since 2012 and has not experienced similar incidents, but he is not surprised that something like this could happen.
– That road is scary. It’s scary to walk and drive here, plus this is a school road. There are many who go up here and take the bus.
He doesn’t think the road should be open to car traffic.
– It is open to traffic in both directions, but must be closed all year round. The area is an urban area with heavy traffic and it is unjustifiable that it is open to traffic as it is now, Meyer says.
Police: – No winter tires
Police at the scene say the car is safe to slide into the garden at the foot of the fence. Car rescue ordered
Simon Almås from the police explains what happened:
– So there has been an incident here where a car failed to get into the lead and slid downhill at Holmboevegen, Åmås says.
– What type of tires does the car have?
– There is not enough road for the lead and then there are no winter tires.
Åmås says there are no injuries. A case is being opened against the driver due to a violation of the Road Traffic Law.
