Forward Alexander Sørloth of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig is creating a scandal for the Norwegian national football team.
Writes the German news magazine Focus. And the magazine is not the only media outlet covering the dispute between Alexander Sørloth (24) and coach Lars Lagerbäck (72).
The German version of goal.com also uses the word “scandal”. And the big newspaper Bild dedicates the case to bold headlines on Friday:
– After the noise in the selection: New opportunity for Sørloth, writes the newspaper, and points to a possible place in the first team against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Sørloth was bought as an upcoming star by Champions League semi-finalist RB Leipzig. But even now it may seem like it burns under the Norwegian’s legs.

At a press conference yesterday, coach Julian Nagelsmann (33) spoke about Sørloth:

Now there are two contradictory explanations. And one of the parties is obviously not speaking correctly.
– I tolerate disagreements on professional football issues, says Lagerbäck.
– Alexander, however, made several accusations that did not refer to how we play football, but kept saying that Per Joar Hansen and I were incompetent as coaches, both in terms of management and football.
Sørloth denies the latter:
– I’ve never said that anyone on the coaching staff is incompetent. Never.
Focus writes that RB Leipzig is aware of the “scandal” but that coach Nagelsmann has not yet spoken to Sørloth about it.
Strike back towards Lagerbäck
Ole Gunnar Solskjær was also asked about the heated dispute at a press conference in Manchester on Friday. United take on Chelsea on Saturday.
– I do not want to comment on this particular case. But a group and a team are like a family, and it’s disappointing if things come out of the closet. Especially if it’s true, says Solskjær.
– There is much that comes out that is not true. But when it is confirmed from within, I am sure that the coaches and the team management are disappointed.
NRK writes that soccer president Terje Svendsen has started a dialogue with the leadership of the national team.
– A process has started. The responsibility rests with the leadership of the national team to resolve the matter, says Svendsen.
Former Rosenborg and national team player Jahn Ivar “Mini” Jakobsen believes that Sørloth cannot continue in the national team if he believes that the technical team is “incompetent”.
– It is not Sørloth or other players who will decide if Lars and Per Joar Hansen will coach the team, Mini tells Dagbladet.
TV 2 commentator Øyvind Alsaker believes there is reason to discuss Lagerbäck’s training after the 1-2 loss to Serbia in the European Championship playoffs.
– Men, says Alsaker:
– There were players who were not good enough and did not pass the exam. Erling Braut Haaland, Alexander Sørloth and Martin Ødegaard were able to play a better football match than they did.
Norway will play three games in November, against Israel, Romania and Austria. The question is whether Sørloth joins or is rejected.
