On Thursday 270 new cases of infection were registered in Norway. This is the highest number of infections in one day since March 26.
FHI has previously stated that cases of infection that are reported one day may have a test date of several days ago. Therefore, the number can be adjusted later.
There are now 17,234 cases recorded since the outbreak began.
In the last 14 days, the infection rate in Norway is 24.4 per 100,000 population.
The infection trend in Norway is flat, but 18 municipalities have an increasing infection trend, the VG summary shows.
79 of the new cases were registered in Oslo. Most have registered in one day in the capital in the last two weeks, where a total of 662 have registered as infected.
With the exception of the 81 infected registered on October 7, yesterday is the day with the most infected since the beginning of April. However, there is great variation between days.
Most of the new infections in total are in the Frogner district, which has 79 new cases in just the last 14 days. Then comes Old Oslo (72), Nordstrand (60) and Alna (52).
– It is clear that we must make changes to maintain control of the pandemic in Norway. First, we must ensure that compliance with current advice and measures is enforced, there are too many examples of infection control being put into practice, and we must work more determinedly in settings and situations where we know risk infection is higher, says Espen Nakstad in The Norwegian Health Directorate to NRK.
He adds that new measures are now being considered, but does not say what they are.
– Much can be gained from better compliance both in the general population and in settings where infection is highest, for example in workplaces where business travelers enter and leave the country.
Higher number of admitted since May
Since September, there has been a gradual increase in the number of admissions and there are now 45 corona patients admitted to the hospital, which is the highest number since May.
6 people are receiving intensive care, of which 4 are on a ventilator, according to VG’s summary. 279 people have lost their lives to the coronavirus since the first death was recorded in March.
Nakstad told VG that there has been the largest increase in infection in the largest cities, but that outbreaks in district municipalities also contribute to the increase. The increase in the number of admissions is related to a general increase in infection in Norway since August.
– The figures tell us that the infection has increased steadily in Norway in the last two months and that unfortunately the breeding number (R) is now above 1. Furthermore, we see that the infection has started to spread to older age groups here in Norway, in the same way as we have seen in Europe, Nakstad told VG on Thursday.
Various local shoots
The municipality of Gjøvik has experienced a sudden increase in infection figures, after an increase of 16 infected people in the last week. Most have an unknown source of infection.
– On Friday, we suddenly received four new cases and they did not have a clear connection. There was one with known infection and three with unknown sources of infection. After that, more have emerged, says municipal chief physician Siri Fuglem Berg.
He also says they expect to receive more test results on Friday.
