Makaveli Lindén is accused of killing Heikki Bjørklund Paltto inside Paltto’s apartment and three rented companions at Majorstua in Oslo.

When the trial began on Monday, the Swede admitted to killing Paltto.

– Yes. I have, Lindén said.

The 22-year-old’s defender, lawyer Øystein Storrvik, added that Lindén acknowledges the facts, but not the criminal fault.

Lindén: – I panicked

From the witness stand, Lindén explained how she hid in the backyard of Paltto and her companions’ apartment. He wanted to hide from the police after robbing a man in a parking garage in Majorstua.

Finally he knocked on the apartment door. It took some time, but finally Paltto arrived and opened the door. Lindén rushed to pull out a knife he had with him and threatened the 24-year-old.

Paltto was threatened through the apartment, while Lindén followed behind with a knife pointed at her neck. The Swede was looking for things he could steal, he explained in court.

Finally, he decided to tie up Paltto. He took a cable and tied Paltto’s hands, then tried to put a bag over Paltto’s head. Then the 24-year-old panicked and ripped the bag to pieces.

– He was active. I took the knife and threatened him. Then he grabbed the knife. Then I panicked, Lindén explained.

It was then that Lindén attacked Paltto with a kitchen knife.

According to the indictment, Paltto was stabbed 45 times in the head, neck and upper body. As a result, he died of hemorrhage and shortness of breath.

– It is very brutal, said Lindén who has stabbed the 24-year-old more than 40 times.

– I am not an angel

– I am not an angel. But I don’t think I would have done what I would have done if I hadn’t been sick, Lindén explained in court.

Lindén arrived in Oslo on October 8, two years ago. He lived with some friends he knew as a child, but they finally told him that he had to find another place to live.

In the days leading up to the murder, he used the time to get high and sell drugs, he explained in court.

He claims he was psychotic at the time of the crime. During his explanation on Monday, he said that he heard voices, but also that he regretted what he had done.

– I cry inside of me when I listen to Heikki’s mother. So sorry. I regret it every day, he said.

– An evil man

Lindén is accused, among other things, of murder and robbery. Although experts believe that he is criminally sane, the prosecutor will most likely request that Lindén be sentenced to mandatory mental health care.

– A brutal murder and a random victim.

This is how prosecutor and prosecutor Trude Antonsen described the murder in her introductory speech on Monday.

Before Lindén explained on Monday, Paltto’s mother testified. He was traveling when he was told that his son had been killed.

– It was absolutely cruel. I was up all night. Then there was a meeting with the police, interrogations and DNA tests, he explained in court.

Monday was the first time he had confronted the person who admitted to killing his son.

– How is it? he was asked in court.

– I think with all my heart for a vicious person. That is what I think.

– He seemed very concentrated

Before the murder, Lindén robbed a man in a parking lot near the apartment.

The first to testify was the rescue victim. The man, who works daily in the Majorstua area, told how Lindén appeared when he carried out the robbery.

– He seemed very focused. He never let go of my gaze. I definitely perceived the situation as threatening, the man said.

While the man explained, Lindén sat staring constantly at a screen.

The period after the robbery described the robbery victim as very difficult. He explained that the robbery has affected him, especially after learning that the robber killed someone. He is more on guard.

– We did not know if this could be linked to a criminal environment and the robbery was quickly linked to the murder, he explained.

Sane in doubt

Experts have established that the Swede, under strong doubts, is criminally sane.

Despite the fact that forensic psychiatrists have concluded that Lindén was sane when she killed Paltto, the prosecutor will likely request mental health care for Lindén.

– We believe that he has ended up in a psychotic state and is therefore not sane. Based on the evidence, it is not sufficiently possible to prove sanity, says prosecutor Antonsen.
