Fernandes was mildly surprised by Wan-Bissaka’s goal in the 4-1 win over Newcastle.
It looked like United were going to lose another point on Saturday night, but beautiful counterattack football in the final minutes finally secured a solid victory for the Solskjær side.
The fourth scorer of the match, and the third of the red jerseys, surprised right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka a bit. The 22-year-old has become best known for his defensive contributions, but in his 50th game for the club, his first goal for the club finally came, and in a beautiful way.

– Hard to believe for us
In a post-match interview with MUTV, it was a cheerful Bruno Fernandes who introduced himself and when asked by Wan-Bissaka, reveals that several teammates were quite surprised by the defender’s great shot.
-We did not know that he could shoot, so it is difficult for us to believe that he can score, because we never see him shoot, says the Portuguese.
– We talked about it in the locker room and we asked him why we thought he wanted to hit a post, he continues.
The midfield star is still clear that his teammate has more than defensive qualities, and that he wants to see more of the same in the future.
– I’m very happy for him. He deserved the score, and we always ask him about this, about being more positive, being in the box more, trying and preparing, because he has very good qualities.
– Everyone knows he is a defensive player and such, but he is more than that, and I think he has the qualities to show it, says Fernandes.

Fought back
The victory was much needed after the previous round’s fading against Tottenham. Mourinho’s men didn’t give up until they scored six goals.
Fernandes opened the game in the best possible way when he sent United ahead, but with a red card to Anthony Martial and four goals against at halftime, the 26-year-old had to spend the second half on the sidelines.
After fighting back with a win over Newcastle, he was also a relieved and happy man.
– What happened against Tottenham cannot happen again. We play for such a great club and such a great team. This club deserves better than that. Everyone needs to improve and it starts with me. I have to look first at myself and then at the rest of the group to see what it takes to do better.
– Today (Saturday) was perfect, after that defeat. Now I think we have to keep improving, not conceding goals, as I said before, and keep scoring, says the Portuguese.
