– We have prepared to get on board and test the entire crew when they arrive in Tromsø on Monday. Then the test results will show which way to go, says Øyvind Benjaminsen, subject leader at the Corona Center in Tromsø municipality.

A trawler is now on its way to Tromsø with an expected arrival on Monday. Of the crew of 14, twelve of them have symptoms of coronary heart disease.

UNN is informed

On Sunday, the municipality of Tromsø is working to get all the information they need about the people on board.

– It is everything from name and number, what symptoms do they have, when they contracted it and what movements they have made in the relevant period, if it turns out that they are infected with the coronavirus, says municipal chief Kathrine Kristoffersen, who emphasizes that not aboard the trawler corona infection has still been confirmed.

The municipality is still unable to say anything about the trawler’s origin, but it left Tromsø in mid-September and has not been on the dock anywhere else.

– If it turns out that someone on board is infected, they will be removed from the ship for isolation. If not everyone on board tests positive, then Kristoffersen says.

He has contacted the emergency department at the Northern Norwegian University Hospital to inform them of the situation.

– It is up to them to be aware of what is coming. We can’t start that long until we know what we’re up against, says Kristoffersen.

Multiple ships with corona infection

Tromsø is one of the three Norwegian ports designated as a port of emergency, also called the IHR port. Together with Bergen and Oslo, the port of Tromsø will be equipped to receive ships with a lot of corona infection on board.

According to the director of the Korona Center in Tromsø, Øyvind Benjaminsen, that is why the trawler is now returning to Tromsø.

– We are beginning to have a good experience in ships with real or suspected corona infection, says Benjaminsen.

Tromsø has handled the outbreak on Hurtigruten’s expedition ship MS ‘Roald Amundsen’. Additionally, several other ships have docked in the city with corona infection. More recently, last week, the Russian trawler “Obeljaj” arrived in Tromsø with 24 corona infected on board.
