In 2016, she attracted a lot of attention when the queen of humor Anne-Kat Hærland revealed that she has the rare eye disease Retinitis pigmentosa.

Hærland contracted the disease in his early 20s.

In the TV program 2 Presseklubben, Hærland tells how she is affected by the disease.

– It is a very complex disease. I have no side vision. I see you fine, but nothing of what is on the pages. This means that there are many practical problems. You can’t see it in me, but you can see it in me if you live with me or are with me. You’ll see that I struggle to climb stairs and tip a lot of glass and things like that, but I still work fine, she says.

Can lose sight

It was in an interview with VG Helg Hærland that he first spoke publicly about the disease. When he was only 22 years old, doctors told him that he most likely lost his sight.

– This diagnosis has been below everything I have done for 20 years. Perhaps now you understand more where everything comes from, you understand the anger in the humor, he told VG.

Eye disease is often described as binocular vision. The field of view can be reduced so much that in the end it appears that you are seeing through a small hole.

The 48-year-old says that every year she discovers new things that she has trouble doing.

Before 2016, only his closest friends knew about the eye disease.

– Go the way it goes

Hærland doesn’t hide the fact that she is tired of journalists’ questions about whether she has gone blind.

Therefore, she is divided on whether it was wise to talk about the disease.

– I would not have liked to have told you to avoid having questions about how you are now and at what stage you are now. It is not possible to cure it, and it goes as it goes, he says in the Press Club.
