On Sunday, various parts of northern and central Norway woke up to snow.

In Røros it already started snowing on Saturday night, and by Sunday afternoon it was still white in several places.

On Monday and Tuesday the first snowfalls of the season will also occur in various places in southern Norway, and on that occasion, the Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued several warnings of danger.

Great local differences

– Monday and Tuesday there will be low pressure on Rogaland, southern Norway and Østafjells. Near the coast it will probably come in the form of rain, but you don’t have to go that far before it turns white, says watch-duty meteorologist Espen Biseth Granan to Dagbladet.

In Sørlandet, the snow line is expected to be 300-500 meters, while in eastern Norway it will be 200-400 meters.

– Precipitation hits the Oslofjord area overnight through Tuesday and Tuesday morning. In Oslo it will probably come in the form of rain, but I don’t think it will go far in before there is sleet and snow, says Granan.

In Romerike, towards Gardermoen and further towards Lillehammer and Hamar, it will likely be white, explains Granan, adding that there will likely be big differences despite the small geographical distance.

Difficult driving conditions

Precipitation is expected to move north and northeast through Tuesday.

According to the meteorologist, it will more or less cover the entire area south of Stadt and Dovre.

So far, no hazard warnings have been issued for Vestland County. In Bergen it will come in the form of rain, but the meteorologist does not rule out that there may also be some snow in the interior and upper areas of Vestland County.

The temperature will gradually increase on Tuesday, but it is not known exactly where and how much this will affect different places. In the extreme south of the country and along the coast, the temperature will likely contribute to the rain, says Granan.

– HE GOES CRAZY: Corona’s situation may be too much for many. For Espen from Tromsø, it rolled over when he was plowing snow.

Due to large local differences, the meteorologist’s breath is to read the warning of danger where to travel, but still comes with a clear warning:

– The danger of slippery roads is definitely present. Driving conditions can be tough, so use the right tires.

In addition, it advises to calculate the overtime and that you drive according to the conditions.

Various accidents

On Sunday, there have been several accidents related to slippery roads in Møre og Romsdal. Police have also been notified of several downhill runs.

Based on the incidents at Møre og Romsdal, the police issued the following request:

– Now people have to think before getting in the car and driving. The snow begins to slide. When I went to work, I saw for myself that in some places there was some snow on the road, operations manager Fylling told Dagbladet.

– Now is the time to park your summer tires and put on winter tires.
