Asbjørn “Kokkejævel” Sandøy (43) and Christine “Kjærest” Pedersen (33), who is ready for the birth, are fast crown at Hammerfest hospital. – We are locked in a room of four square meters.
– The bride is fine under the conditions. She is bored too. It’s hard to be locked in with me 24 hours a day, Sandøy tells VG.
– I should have received a diploma, adds Pedersen.
Four days have passed since the blogger chef and the heavily pregnant girlfriend rushed to Hammerfest hospital in anticipation of the birth.
The hospital is completely “closed” after an outbreak of infection among employees.
TV2 and NRK covered the case first.
Live in 16 square meters
The child has yet to arrive, but in the meantime, Hammerfest Hospital has begun immediate action after at least 12 employees have been confirmed infected since Thursday.
– We are locked in a 16 square meter room. Employees come in with food dressed in full protective gear, and when they close the door behind them, it gets bombastic here. It’s a real prison, says Sandøy.
From inside the four walls of the hospital room, Sandøy has blogged about the dramatic situation. After his website was created last year, he quickly became one of the most popular bloggers in Norway and now tops the list of top blogs.

He says the bride experienced a lot of movements in her abdomen on Saturday night, which made them wait for labor to begin.
– But then it wasn’t like that. It’s frustrating. During the time we have been there, there are already two other mothers who have had children in the hospital. We haven’t seen any of that, but it’s something the employees have told us, says Sandøy.
Well kept
The couple say they feel well cared for despite the circumstances, and that the staff deserve praise for the good treatment they have received.
– Is the child concerned given the situation in the hospital?
– In fact, I guess the child is even safer in terms of crown. After the virus arrived in Norway, this is perhaps the best time to give birth, as female employees have been reminded to be more strict with infection control.
Sandøy can also participate in the entire labor, as he is isolated with his pregnant girlfriend. In general, parents during the corona pandemic have been allowed to be present in the hospital during delivery, but not before or after.

– I am registered as a regular patient. Technically I am allowed to leave the hospital, but then I will not be allowed back in. This is not how I want it, says the chef.
Also send a thank you to your readers who have come with support and words of encouragement during the dramatic time at the hospital.
– It’s so incredibly welcoming that so many people are waiting with us, says Sandøy.
Trying to take care of patients
– It’s an unfortunate situation and we hope it works out for them, says communications manager Eirik Palm at Finmark Hospital.
He says they go out of their way to care for patients during the ongoing infection situation at Hammerfest Hospital.
– We have as few people as possible inside the hospital to control the infection, and the emergency services are still working. We get good help from other parts of Helse nord, and some patients get treatment in Kirkenes, Karasjok or Alta instead, he tells VG.
The communications manager says they do not know how the outbreak started, but infection monitoring and measurements started after the first employee received confirmation of the infection. He hopes they will receive more positive results as more tests are done.
– Then we’ll see how quickly we get back to normal. It’s hard to predict, but I hope things start to normalize by the end of next week, says Palm.
