At 1 o’clock on Monday, a fire broke out on the top floor of a residential house in the Laksevåg district of Bergen. Flames shot out of a patio door.
One person was found dead in the house. As of Monday night, the person has yet to be identified.
Two people are now charged after the fire. Write BA.
The two are charged with negligent fire handling, under the Fire and Explosion Act.
– They are not charged with arson, so to speak, police lawyer on duty Arne Fjellstad told NRK on Monday night.
Wait for your release overnight
For NRK, Fjellstad will not confirm or deny whether the two were in the apartment with the deceased, but will state that they live in the house.
During the day, the two defendants have given an explanation.
– They have been explained in a way that makes us want to get more information, Fjellstad tells BA.
Fjellstad hopes the two will be released overnight.
Feared proliferation
In addition, another five were taken out by smoke divers, according to the fire service. Three of them received medical attention.
“I don’t know their condition, but they probably ingested a lot of smoke,” said duty commander Ronald Drotningsvik at headquarters 110 in Hordaland Monday afternoon.
The other two were in another apartment in the building.
Previously, he said they feared the fire could spread to another residential unit in the same building.
– There is heat from the floor to the ceiling. We use heat search cameras and try to poke holes in the ceiling with a spear. It’s an old wooden house with cavities in various places, so these are some of the worst houses we can have in terms of extinction, Drotningsvik said.
I don’t know who the dead man is
The fire service dispatched four cars from the main fire station, two from the Laksevåg fire station, one elevator from the Åsane fire station, and all cars from the Sandviken fire station.
The road in front of the house was closed for a time.
At the moment, it is too early to say what caused the fire, police said Monday night. The person who was found dead is not yet identified.
– We carried out more investigations and collected as much information as possible, both with a view to the cause of the fire and to find out who was in the apartment, says operations manager Steinar Hausvik.
The scene of the fire has been cordoned off and forensic investigations will be conducted at the home Tuesday.
