If Norwegian decides to close the base at London’s Gatwick airport, 259 employees could be affected, writes Bloomberg.
This corresponds to about a quarter of the company’s employees in the UK.
For the media, Norwegian confirms that this is something they are considering.
– We have entered into discussions with colleagues and unions in the UK and will try to find solutions that avoid redundancies, a Norwegian representative writes in an email to Bloomberg.
The Gatwick base is used for short haul flights. If this is closed, the company will continue to fly to the UK from its other bases in the Nordic region.
Long-haul flights will not be affected, writes Bloomberg.

The redundancy scheme expires
Norwegian, like all other airlines, has been hit hard by the corona virus.
Around 8,000 employees, corresponding to around 80 percent of the entire workforce, have been laid off.
The layoff plan for British employees expires at the end of the month. It will then be replaced by a scheme that means that companies must bear a larger share of the costs.
