Fredrik Solvang, NRK | Fredrik Solvang surprised everyone: took a Trump / Biden turn

NRK host Fredrik Solvang had to compete with the national match on Thursday night. Then he brought out an American touch.

Thursday night was the moment of a maximum duel between Prime Minister Erna Solberg and the leader of the Labor party, Jonas Gahr Støre. At the same time, there was an international match.

It wasn’t the content that generated the most engagement, but rather the format. For Solvang had copied the format of the first debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, which was marked by interruptions and disorder.

“I bet Haaland will finish his hat tricks when it’s 9:20 pm so you can change channels just as easily. #nrkdebattSolvang wrote on Twitter before the debate.

The American debate had the text of the Declaration of Independence in the background of the polemicists. In NRK, it became the national coat of arms.

Severe age difference

There was also another clear difference between Norwegian and American politics. While the US presidential debate was moderated by Chris Wallace (72) with debaters Donald Trump (74) and Joe Biden (77), it gave a total age on stage of 223 years.

In Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre (60) was the oldest on stage. However, he is 17 years younger than Biden. Erna Solberg is 59 years old and Fredrik Solvang is 43. This gives a total age on stage of 162 years.

The first topics of the US-inspired debate were inequality and fiscal policy.

On Twitter, there was praise for the format, which was characterized by speed, sharp questions, and the interchange between Støre and Solberg.

As soon as the interruptions began to take over the debate between Støre and Solberg, Solvang tightened his voice and said: “Erna Solberg and Jonas Gahr Støre”.

Then he was silent. They all smiled and Støre said: – We respect the president.
