On Wednesday evening, Ålesund Municipality reports that it has an unresolved infection situation related to an event in Skodje church on Sunday, October 4 at 11 AM. M.

One of the participants had coronavirus symptoms about two days after the event and was later diagnosed with coronary heart disease.

Known close contacts of the person should be quarantined. The organizer has complied with infection control rules and has a list of all participants, writes the municipality.

Ålesund Municipal Chief Medical Officer Olav Mestad says there were 93 people involved in the service, including both listeners and organizers.

– He is one of those who has had an active role at the head of the church that is now infected. Those with active roles in the service were also at the forefront of the church. It is these who have now been quarantined, he says.

Everyone who has been quarantined is encouraged to get tested, and Mestad also asks everyone who attended the service to be more aware of whether they are experiencing symptoms.

– Then they have to stay home and organize a test, he says.

Does not live in Ålesund

The infected person does not live in the municipality of Ålesund, and Mestad was informed of the infection through the municipality of origin of the person in question. It does not mean which municipality the person comes from for privacy reasons.

– We got the message this afternoon and we have been working on the case all night, says Mestad.

Six people are in quarantine in Ålesund, but more than ten people are in total quarantine, as a result of the church situation. During the event, the current infection control regulations were complied with, so the municipal chief has had access to a list with the names and telephone numbers of all those who participated.

– We will notify everyone who was at the event by SMS, says Mestad.
