The increase applies to children up to the age of six and NOK 413 million has been proposed for the measure in the state budget for 2021. The total price is estimated at NOK 1.1 billion per year.

Furthermore, in 2019 everyone received an increase in child benefit of NOK 1,000, the first increase in child benefit since 1996; a total of 8,200 crowns for families with young children, says the Minister of Children and Families Kjell Ingolf Ropstad (KrF) to VG.

With the increase in child benefit, the government is fulfilling what it promised on the Granavolden platform: to increase the annual child benefit by NOK 7,200 for children up to 6 years of age.
The increase will also benefit welfare recipients with children. Therefore, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs will increase the indicative state rates for social benefits in the category 0 to 5 years corresponding to the increase in the child benefit.
