The new company will be up and running before the summer of next year.

– We believe that this industry will change significantly in the future, Braathen tells NRK.

– We think the timing for this now is good, because we don’t think the market will go back to where it was before the corona pandemic, he says.

He believes that the new company can offer something new and says that people will continue to fly when we come out of the crown crisis and that the new company will do so in an efficient and modern way.

“We will use all our experience and knowledge to build a new Norwegian airline adapted to the economic reality and the needs of the passengers,” says the heir to the flight Erik G. Braathen.

Braathen has previously been a member of the board of Norwegian and was CEO of Braathens Safe for ten years until 1999.

With him on the team are Brede Huser, Thomas Ramdahl, Asgeir Nyseth, Alf Sagen, Bjørn Erik Barman-Jenssen and Tord Meling, as he now launches a new Norwegian airline.

25 people work full time to build the new company. Several of those who are now part of the team behind the new company have working hours in Norwegian. Asgeir Nyrseth was operations manager and the right-hand man of former Norwegian manager Bjørn Kjos until he left two years ago. Both Brede Huser and Bjørn Erik Barman-Jenssen have careers in Norwegian, but they left the day Jacob Schram became the new CEO.

Interesting news

Trade and Industry Minister Iselin Nybø (V) has received the news about the new airline, but knows little about the details.

– It’s exciting and it will be interesting to look a little closer at the plans, he tells NRK and adds

– Aviation is important and we completely depend on having good flight deals as is our geography. She thinks it’s interesting that new players are entering the market. She says she has not heard from the new company, but does not say no to meet with them if they ask for a meeting.

– The Norwegian air transport market is clearly a market in which private players see the opportunity, he tells NRK.

Aviation in crisis

This is happening while the aviation industry is in deep crisis. Most recently, Norwegian released updated traffic figures for September this year, which showed a 90 percent decrease from September last year, with its 319,370 passengers.

– We believe the time is right to start a new airline now. We rent modern airplanes at a reasonable price, hire the best employees and build a fully digital business with little complexity, which means we get low costs and can make money with fewer airplanes.

– We will have planes in Norway, we will fly in Norway and we will also leave Norway, Braathen tells NRK.

In addition, the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air today announced an important press conference in which CEO József Váradi promises an investment in Norway.

– Our investment has nothing to do with Wizz Air. We do not collaborate with them and we plan our investment independently of them, concludes Braathen.
