The man in his 70s from Namdal in Trøndelag is accused of having sexually abused four young men.

Three of them were under 16 years old when the abuse allegedly occurred, one was over 16 years old.

Since the beginning of September, the police have been investigating the case against the man. He was arrested and charged on September 28. Now he is arrested.

The investigation began after one of the victims contacted the police.

– Based on the information we have so far, we have reason to believe that there may be even more people who have been exposed to this, says the prosecutor in the case, police attorney Trude Skogen.

The abuse is said to have taken place over a long period of time.

The man is accused of rape, intercourse with minors under 16, attempted intercourse with minors under 16 and having committed sexual acts with minors under 16 years of age.

The forest will not give details on how long police believe the man has abused children.

But the abuse must have occurred over a longer period of time, both before and after the entry into force of the new penal code in 2015.

Nor does he want to give the exact age of the offended.

– Because it is a smaller place, a small community, we do not want to give more information about age. It can help to identify those offended in the case, which will be a burden on them, says the police attorney.

Detained for four weeks

The man lives in Namdalen in Trøndelag. The child violence team at Namdal and Innherred is investigating the case with the help of investigators.

The accused is in preventive detention for four weeks. Police believe they may waste evidence on bail.

– That is, it can influence people who have been exposed to something, or who have witnessed something. It may remove some traces. So we filed a custody request and it was confirmed.

The Namdal District Court only put him on remand for two weeks. Police appealed to the Frostating Court of Appeal, which handed down a four-week prison sentence on Monday. The man is in control of the letters and visits throughout the incarceration period.

Will do a series of interrogations

According to police, the man allegedly committed the assault physically, not online.

– There is nothing to indicate that based on the information we have now. But of course this is something that we are working on and will investigate further.

Police now continually question people who they believe may have knowledge of the abuse. They have also made a search at the home of the accused.

– We cannot enter what we found there, says Skogen.

She emphasizes that child abuse cases have a very high priority in the police.

– If someone has been sexually abused, it is important that you contact us, even if you think the conditions are too old, he says.

She encourages those who feel they have been sexually abused to contact the police on 02800.
