Shortly after the discovery at the apartment on Saturday, local police contacted the Police Security Service (PST).

– We are familiar with the case and assisted the Agder Police District in the investigation, says Martin Bernsen, PST Senior Advisor for NRK.

The Agder police district has called a press conference on the death at 12 noon on Sunday.

The man in his 40s was found dead in his apartment in Suldalen, outside of downtown Kristiansand, on Saturday.

Has blocked the area

Findings at the scene prompted police to investigate the death as a suspect, and local police have asked Kripos for help. Furthermore, PST also helps.

A large area around the apartment is now cordoned off. Dogs were also used in the search on Saturday.

At the same time, forensic investigations are conducted inside the home.

Police were notified of the find inside the apartment at 1 p.m. Saturday, and relatives were notified.

Found by the neighbor

Neighbors NRK has spoken with say there have been many police officers in and around the apartment since Saturday afternoon. Work on the scene is expected to continue throughout the night.

It was a neighbor who alerted the police, and there are findings inside the place that make the police consider the death suspicious.

– Police received a report on Saturday afternoon that a neighbor had found a dead man in his apartment in Kristiansand, says Henrik Bjugan Hegdahl, a lawyer for the police in the Agder police district.

– The observations made by the report and the police on the ground lead the police to investigate the death as a suspect, says the police lawyer.

Forensic scientists conduct technical investigations in the field.

– We have asked Kripos for technical and tactical assistance. We will also question witnesses and neighbors over the weekend, Hegdahl says.
