LAST: Police arrested a person in the forest south of Fjellheisen. The arrested man was born in 1980 and is the alleged perpetrator of a robbery at the Shell station in Tromsdalen on Friday morning.
The weapon, a hunting rifle that was removed from the stolen car early Friday, was also found, police confirmed to Nordlys on Friday afternoon.
At 2:19 p.m., the police received tips from a person who had observed a man who complied with the police search. The witness saw the man carrying a green firearm case, police said.
The police immediately moved in with several pairs of dogs, a dog and a drone.
“At 2:58 p.m., the police had control of the perpetrator. The person tested the weapon that was found by the police shortly after. The weapon is the same one that the police called shortly in advance,” the police write in a Press release.
– He did what he was told
The man was arrested with the weapon in the case.
– He was arrested in the last avalanche embankment over Reinen at the school, task leader Morten Renland tells Nordlys.
– The arrest was not dramatic. He did what he was told and joined the police, Renland says.
It was 2:40 pm when the police moved in force again to Tromsdalen. Nordlys reporter Thor Harald Henriksen was in the area and arrived early at the location near the chairlift.
– There were several patrols and also at least one canine patrol. I heard the dog make a violent signal and soon after I heard the police officers yelling from the hillside “Lie down!” Soon after, I saw two policemen walking up the stairs with one person between them, says Henriksen.
Great action
Large police forces participated in the armed operation in a residential area in Tromsdalen, says Anita Hermandsen, head of the police station in Tromsø.
– There have been great resources at stake in this case, he tells Nordlys.
The police also used a drone in the operation.
The alleged perpetrator, a man born in 1980, has been known to the police from the past. This is confirmed by police lawyer Gøril Lund.
In a press release, the police write that they thank the public for advice on the case throughout the day.
