On Friday, the Civil Aviation Authority gave the airlines a deadline for the reimbursement of the flights so that they do not end up with millionaire fines for the companies. The deadline is set for the money to be repaid at the end of November.

– We note that the audit has reached this decision. It was time the authorities sanctioned what has been a clear violation of consumer legal rights, says Director Inger Lise Blyverket at the Consumer Council.

– Consumers should have received a refund within seven days, but they have waited months. We expected the Civil Aviation Authority to give a clear message to SAS that they would reimburse all outstanding claims by the end of October, it adds.

Blyverket believes that a debate must now take place on whether consumers can agree to prepay for flights after this case.

– The airlines and the management of the authorities have forced a debate on whether we can accept advance payment for flights. When consumers’ money is not insured, we should also not agree to pay for the trip upfront, he says.
