– All infection tracking takes us there, says infection control doctor Anette Ester to Firda.
19 of the 21 infected with the coronavirus work in the yard. The last two are related to the people who work there, Mayor Kjell Eide reports to NRK.
None of those infected should be seriously ill.
Last Saturday, it was learned that a foreign worker at the shipyard tested positive for COVID-19. The man came from Poland on Thursday and put himself to the test when he landed in Flesland. Most of those infected are guest workers from Poland, shipyard manager Erlend Hatleberg tells BT.
More can get infected
The mayor does not have an exact number of how many people are in quarantine, but he believes that Friday afternoon the number passed 200.
Hyllestad has just over 1,300 inhabitants and with 21 infections in recent days, the municipality probably has one of the highest infection pressures in Norway at the moment.
The mayor does not rule out that more people may be infected.
– There may be more positive evidence. We’ve been testing all day and will at least test Saturday and. Maybe on Sunday and, the mayor explains to NRK.
He also points to the core company with 460 employees when NRK asks where the infection is coming from.
– There is no known infection in the local community, except in Havyard. That is good. In this sense, we believe that it has done well, but it is not easy for the company, says Eide.
– The results show that we have taken the appropriate measures so that there is no infection in the local community.
The municipality believes it now has a good overview and control of the outbreak.
More than 200 in quarantine
The mayor says the municipality is now working intensively on infection detection and testing. On Friday alone, 150 people tested. A total of 300 people have been tested in Hyllestad, of which 200 have been tested at the shipyard station.
The manager of the Havyard shipyard in Leirvik, Erlend Hatleberg, does not have time to speak with NRK on Friday night.
But for Firda, Havyard Group CEO Gunnar Larsen says he can’t say if this person has infected more people.
The CEO: – We have followed the rules.
He also says they have good routines on the patio.
– As far as I know, we have discovered no violations of the procedures. We believe that we have had good enough routines and we have followed the government’s guidelines and orders. Now we will review them one more time, to see what action we can take, he tells Firda.
Until the situation is under control, production will be stopped at the shipyard. The municipality’s school and kindergarten will also be closed until further notice. At the same time, strict visitor restrictions have been introduced at the hospital and the city hall.
– We do extreme sports
The municipal chief doctor Jan Helge Dale has nothing to do with the outbreak in Hyllestad, but tells Firdaposten that it is a risky sport to open the borders to labor immigration. In Florø, an infection was detected in a Polish worker at the shipyard on Friday.
“Poland is a highly endemic area, which means that there is a lot of infection there, and the fact that this infection reaches the country through labor immigration is a problem that we are waiting for,” Dale told the newspaper.
