The fire service was notified of the fire at 0717 on Friday morning.
– A neighbor discovered it was on fire. He called us in parallel when he went to the house and got people out of there, duty commander Morten Frantzen tells BA.
It burned on a terrace attached to an apartment. When the fire department arrived, there were open flames.
– Smoke divers were sent to the apartment. They did a rough and fine search, says Frantzen.
They were able to establish that no one was in the apartment and that no serious injuries have been reported.
– The fire has spread to ceilings and walls, says Frantzen.
At 07:39, firefighters report that they have put out the flames and are in control of the situation.
Awakened by crackling noises
The commander of the guard at the 110th exchange, Glenn Hamre, tells BA that the fire was reported to have been extinguished in 0807.
– It seems that the fire started on a terrace on the third floor and from there it spread to the cladding and ceiling. We have managed to limit and extinguish the fire, says Hamre.
The fire brigade will be on site throughout the day to check and make sure the fire does not flare up again, Hamre says.
BA has spoken with one of the ten residents of the house, a man in his 20s. He says he woke up to crackling sounds before he finally heard the smoke alarm.
– He burned upstairs and they told me about the others who slept on my floor, he tells BA.
The dormitory has several housing units and no one was injured in the fire.
The fire brigade responded to the fire with teams from Hovedstasjonen, Sandviken Station and Fana Station. There were a huge number of emergency services vehicles, and the police encourage people who have nothing to do in the area not to drive.
The neighbor is praised
BA has spoken with Arve Mikkelsen. He’s a taxi driver from Bergen, and he had to give way to fire trucks when it started burning.
– I saw open flames and a lot of smoke. There are a lot of fire trucks here, he says.
The efforts of the vigilant neighbor are praised.
– He took people out quickly. Very positive, Frantzen boasts on exchange 110.
BA is in place. Fire Service Fire Chief John Magnus Birkeland says it was a relatively challenging blaze. It burned on the top floor under the roof.
– Post-extinction will last a few hours, he says.
The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
The police have contact with the owner and are now working to contact the ten people who live there.
– All have been posted and the owner is now on the site. It’s a bit uncertain how many people were in the home when the fire started, but no one was injured, says West Police District Operations Manager E Vind Hellesund.
The house is uninhabitable according to the police.
