Record electric car sales month in September

The case is being updated.

Last month saw a marked increase in the number of new cars registered, with sales of electric cars increasing the most, according to recent figures from the Road Traffic Information Council (OFV).

Up to 61.5 percent of newly registered passenger cars were electric.

The previous record was set in March 2019, and then the turnout was 58.4 percent, writes Dagens Næringsliv.

– This is historical. The electric car policy now works so well that 6 out of 10 choose an electric car when they buy a new car. We are coming closer to making electric cars for everyone, because this is good news also for those who want to buy a used electric car, says Secretary General Christina Bu of the Norwegian Electric Car Association.

The increase in the share of electric cars may be related to the fact that there are now many new models on the market. At the top of the list of newly registered cars in September 2020 are three electric cars at the top: Volkswagen ID. 3, followed by Tesla 3 and Polestar 2. In fourth place is Toyota’s Rav 4 hybrid.

In September a total of 15,552 new passenger cars were registered. This is an increase of 39.4 percent compared to the corresponding period last year. As of September 30 this year, 95,350 new cars had been sold, representing a decrease of 13.8 percent compared to last year.
