Councilor Helge Thorsen in Brønnøy in Helgeland is fired after several warning cases – NRK

This spring, four cases of whistle-blowing were directed against the councilor, writes Brønnøysunds Avis.

The municipality no longer trusts Councilor Helge Thorsen, the Brønnøy municipal council decision states.

An investigative report by the Alstahaug councilor and two KS lawyers was presented to the city council in June, and an employers’ committee was created to follow up on the report’s findings. The committee reported to the municipal council in the Nordland municipality behind closed doors on Wednesday.

Following the briefing, it was unanimously decided that the city council no longer has confidence in the councilor and that the Employers’ Committee will terminate the employment relationship with Thorsen as soon as possible, if necessary after dismissal.

The report on the whistle-blowing cases criticizes the councilor, who according to KS lawyers has acted recklessly.

In one case, they conclude that one of the warnings involves an alleged reprehensible relationship.

They are also not sure if the councilman will be able to generate the necessary trust. At the same time, the report rejects several of the warnings.

Brønnøysunds Avis writes that this is the decision:

No more confidence

Mayor Eilif Trælnes tells NRK that notification cases are from March.

He will not comment on the details of them.

– It was a matter of reorganization. I have no further comment on this.

– The complainants have stayed a bit, and the councilor has confirmed something.

The mayor describes a turbulent period and today they have had a meeting with the councilor.

– We hope to reach an agreement. We have an attorney from KS who is speaking with Thorsen’s attorney.

– Does the dialogue currently go through lawyers?

– Yes for now.

May end up in court

Councilor Helge Thorsen tells NRK that he is taking note of the decision.

Now he hopes that “the employers’ committee will use its mandate to reach an agreement.”

– So we don’t get a labor law case out of this.

– Could it be the result?

– Potentially it is the germ, yes. If you opt for a layoff, I will assert my right to occupy a position until I decide on a possible employment claim. It will be very unusual, and I hope we don’t follow the path.

Furthermore, he describes the dialogue as lacking.

– The employers’ committee has used lawyers from KS. Of course, I have my lawyer, through the councilors’ forum. I, as an employer, have not had any dialogue with the committee, other than a follow-up meeting related to the notification cases that have been decided.

I do not agree with all the conclusions

On whistle-blowing cases, Thorsen says he criticizes himself on some points.

– But I do not share the entire content of this notification report.

Thorsen says that, among other things, he disagrees with the method KS lawyers have used.

– What I have been criticized, mainly, are the subsequent conditions.

– I hope that now we sit down and negotiate an agreement. I think both parties will benefit from this, says Thorsen.
