Update: By 8 o’clock, the vast majority of customers should have regained power, Elvia reports to E24.

Large parts of central Oslo, including Aker Brygge, were affected by a power outage on Wednesday morning, according to the website of network operator Elvia. A smaller area in Helsfyr is also said to have no electricity.

Among the affected areas is also the VG building, where the E24 is located.

I did not find the error

– We haven’t found the bug yet, but we have teams to fix the problem. We expect power to come back in an hour, communications consultant Cecilie Gregersen in Elvia tells E24 as the power outage was taking place.

At 8 o’clock, Senior Advisor Kjell Stamgård at Elvia stated that the vast majority of clients should regain power within 15 minutes.

– Customers near the wrong location may take a little longer. In the city center of Oslo, you can reconnect the power in different directions, so hopefully we will find a switch option for these customers, says Stamgård.

You cannot say anything about what caused the blackout.

Affected public transport

Public transport was also seriously affected by the blackout that occurs during rush hour.

– There is a power outage between the National Theater and Bislett. It’s dark at Jernbanetorget station, and until further notice, the subway runs through the station, says route press officer Sofie Bruun to E24 during the power outage.

All other metro stations in the area were open at the same time, but several tram lines running through the city center were stopped, he says.

Ruter doesn’t know exactly how many were affected by the shutdown:

– There are quite a few who ride the tram at the moment, so there are probably many, says Bruun.

According to Ruter’s website, tram lines 11, 12, 13, 15 and 19 were affected by power supply problems.

Delays throughout the day

Tramway press officer Thomas Ege confirmed that both the tram and the metro were affected by the incident. The company responsible for the operation of the two means of transport worked to correct errors.

– There are many passengers who will be affected by this. We have people working to fix it.

At 8 o’clock, Ege indicates that power is back on the tram network again.

– For the next half hour, traffic will return to normal, but you will probably have to wait for some delays throughout the day, says Ege.

The metro stops normally at the Jernbanetorget metro station.

According to Elvia’s summary, more than 1,100 customers were affected by the power outage.

This applies to zip codes 0050, 0154, 0155, 0181, 0184, 0164, 0180, 0179, 0161, 0160, 0159, 0152, 0153, 0251, 0250, 0660, 0157, 0158, and 0026.

As of 8:30 a.m., only eight customers were still affected by the breach, according to Elvia’s summary.
