Bohinen asks young players to learn from Hauge

Jens Petter Hauge will be the next professional Norwegian soccer star. Just two years ago, he broke the bench in 1st division.

August 15, 2018: Four months have passed without Jens Petter Hauge being able to start a league game for Bodø / Glimt. He wants more playing time and is loaned out to Aalesund in the 1st division for the rest of the season.

But at the sporting level, it will not be a wise choice. Hauge plays little and sits on the bench as an unused reserve in 11 games. Little goes what the young man hopes and dreams.

September 2020: Hauge is one of the biggest stars in the Elite Series. Several use the word “sensation” about the 20-year-old who last week shone against AC Milan at the San Siro.

The Italian soccer giant was so impressed that it will raise NOK 56 million to pick up Hauge right away. On Tuesday afternoon, VG announced that Hauge landed in Milan and the sale of Glimt is expected to be confirmed shortly.

– It is absolutely magnificent. It has had a fantastic development in the last two years, says Lars Bohinen.

He was a coach at Aalesund when Hauge was hired at the last minute in 2018. The transition was betting on the club’s desperate quest to strengthen the stable.

– Jens Petter has developed in many ways. Defensively, he works much harder and harder than at Aalesund. It was a bit special when he came to us. We were looking for a winger in the 3-5-2 system, but we couldn’t find one. Then Jens Petter’s name came up on the last day of the transfer window. Then we take a chance, says Bohinen.

Too impatient

He gave Hauge only one match from the start. The other five games he got as a substitute. According to Bohinen, there was a double reason behind the lack of playing time.

– When it came to us, we entered a period where we had led the series for a long time and we started to lose games. The main reason he wasn’t allowed to play was that he didn’t have enough defensive confidence on a fiver in the system we play. The second was that he did not create as much offense as today.

Bohinen, who had to resign as AaFK coach a month ago, believes that Hauge is a “great example” that big dreams are possible even if things don’t go well early in his career.

– There are many young and impatient players who will definitely play and change clubs as soon as they don’t understand it. They don’t take the time to stay where they are to develop and establish themselves.

Jens Petter was also very impatient, but he stood his ground. He expected to play more with us than he did at Bodø / Glimt, but that didn’t happen. I think it hardened him a bit to move house for the first time and leave Bodø for half a year. It has had a formidable development.

Although there was barely a minute of play during Bohinen, Hauge has no ill feelings towards the former England pro. In an interview with Nettavisen, he says he learned a lot from his time at AaFK.

– He knows what it’s like to be a player on the way forward, and he made me understand what was going on. I’m very happy with the way he treated me, even if things didn’t go as expected, Hauge said of Bohinen in August.

New life

Now Jens Petter Hauge will replace the safe life in Bodø with a completely new life in Milan.

– The San Siro match was just a confirmation that he maintains a good international level. You have taken those steps very quickly. In a single match, there are many who can excel, but their challenge will be to do so over time also abroad, says Bohinen.

He first became a foreign professional himself when he left Viking in favor of the Swiss Young Boys in 1990. He later became a Premier League player for Nottingham Forest, Blackburn and Derby.

– A club like Milan cannot be compared to Bodø / Glimt. Everything is bigger and more professional. Milanello is a fantastic gym. There will be pressure of expectations and pressure both externally and internally, but Milan may have the youngest team in Serie A. Jens Petter joins a young and pleasant group.

Now that Hauge travels to Italy, he knows that he has been a key player in the Bodø / Glimt gold quest. In 18 games he has scored 14 goals and had eight goal assists.
