Stockholm’s health director Björn Eriksson says they are seriously looking at the spread of the infection in the capital.
Aftonbladet reports.
The Health Director made the statement during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. Just over four percent of all those who were tested for the coronavirus in Stockholm last week tested positive.
Eriksson interprets the figures to mean that many have stopped following the recommendations of health authorities.
– We are seriously concerned and take the situation around the increasing spread of infection in the Stockholm region at the moment, he says, according to Aftonbladet.
Stockholm has recently seen a sharp increase in infection. Between September 17 and 24, 855 new cases of infection were registered, almost double than the previous week.
In this regard, state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said the development is concerning. It is going slowly but surely in the wrong direction, you think.
Will intensify testing
The health director asks people to take responsibility by following the recommendations on distance, exercising outdoors, not going to parties, interacting mainly with people from the same household and limiting physical contact with people at risk.
Maria Rotsén Östlund, Interim Infection Control Physician for the Stockholm region, will intensify testing. She encourages people to get tested for unexplained symptoms of migraines or allergies.
– Until you get the test result, it must be isolated, says Rotsén Östlund.
So far, 92,466 people have been confirmed to be infected with corona in Sweden, based on VG’s overview. On Tuesday 422 new cases of contagion were registered in the country.
At the same time, the number of infected hospitalized is much lower than at the beginning of the pandemic. At most, 2,037 people received treatment for Covid-19 on April 27, compared to 150 today.
