The midfielder returns home to Norwegian football.

This is confirmed by the people of Trøndelag on their website on Sunday night.

The 28-year-old has signed a contract that lasts until the 2024 season.

– I am very proud to be able to play for the club again in my heart and I look forward to the challenges that come, says Markus Henriksen.

Henriksen says it’s been a tough decision lately.

– I’ll be honest in saying that when I said no to more games at Bristol City, I didn’t think Rosenborg would be the next destination. But the longer it took and after many conversations with Micke and Åge, I felt really loved in Rosenborg. Also, we’ve had several family councils who finally found Trondheim enjoyable to stay.

Motivated

Also, it reveals that there have been many offers to consider.

– I have received very good offers to which I have said no. I chose Rosenborg at the end, he says.

Now it is clear that it is the reason for the return to Norwegian football.

– If anyone doubts it, then they don’t know me or know how I work. Once I have made a decision, I defend it and I will always give 100 percent. Also, I feel like I’ve never been a better footballer than I am now. Rosenborg has a hungry and motivated Markus Henriksen, he says.

– A fantastic coach

The 28-year-old looks forward to working with coach Åge Hareide.

– Åge is a fantastic coach with a very good resume. I look forward to meeting the group of players and working more closely with Åge.

The midfielder, who also played for Rosenborg until he was sold to AZ Alkmaar of the Netherlands in 2012, can make his debut against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday.

– This is the kind of game you hope to play. PSV are probably the favorites, but we have beaten better teams than Lerkendal before, says Henriksen.

Sporting director Micke Dorsin is, of course, very pleased to have signed Henriksen.

– We are very happy about that. Markus is high class both as a guy and as a player. He’s a Rosenburger, he’s a regular on the national team, and he’s kind of a leader. It’s a very good sign that he will come here to help improve the team and the club, he says.

Henriksen played for Rosenborg in 2009-2012 and is listed with 118 games for the club. So far he has scored 23 goals for the club.
