His wife was also infected with corona this spring, as well as a couple of Dutch friends, who were with them on a trip.

Hurtigruten tells NRK that they were subsequently notified of twelve people who they suspected were infected or had confirmed COVID-19 on their ships in February and March.

Hurtigruten’s management discussed on March 3 what to do if someone on board becomes infected with corona. The response they got was, among other things, to inform the other passengers and the crew, it says in the company’s investigation report after the incident with Roald Amundsen in Tromsø.

Acting COO Asta Lassesen at Hurtigruten says the company did not receive information about the infection that could be related to travel until July.

– It was communicated at the end of May from a travel agency that one of the guests had died of covid-19, but without it being linked to the departures, he says.

Hurtigruten believes it is difficult to determine where the infection came from, whether it was on a trip to ships or on board. However, it is not excluded that an infection has occurred during travel.

– No connection was observed between these cases when they were reported and no other infection was suspected. In at least one of the cases, another specific probable source of infection was noted. They had all been traveling in Europe. With the exception of the first suspicion, the information arrived in the weeks after the departures and after the entire fleet was in storage. Where the latter will only be reported this summer, says Lassesen.
