Preliminary forensic examination shows that the deceased has injuries consistent with murder.
On September 23, the Eastern Police District was notified that a dead person had been found in his apartment in central Sarpsborg.
When the police arrived at the apartment, it was clear to the police that the lifeless person had been dead for some time. The deceased is a man in his 50s, the Eastern Police District said in a press release.
– The circumstances surrounding the death were unclear, but after a preliminary forensic examination, the police have opened a murder investigation, police lawyer Anders Svarholt told Dagbladet.

– Injuries compatible with homicide
– We can’t say for sure how long the victim has been dead, but it was obvious to the police that it was a while, at least several days, Svarholt tells Dagbladet.
At the moment, the police do not want to give more details about the deceased.
– We don’t want to say anything more about the victim at this time, but we will come back to it.
The preliminary forensic examination shows that the deceased have injuries that are compatible with the murder, but will not detail what they are.
The police attorney tells Dagbladet that it was the circumstances surrounding the death that were unclear, and that is the reason why the police waited two days to notify the public.
– We report suspicious deaths almost every week, but in the fewest cases there is suspicion of murder. Here there was tangible evidence that there was a suspicion of something criminal, which is why it was decided to request a forensic autopsy and that the forensic examination would be awaited before giving notice.
I think the victim was killed in the apartment.
The police are working on the theory that the deceased was killed in the apartment, which is located in the center of Sarpsborg.
– We have started a thorough investigation of the crime scene tonight and also received assistance from Kripos.
As of now, there are no suspects in the case. The police do not want to say anything about the incident that is related to a particular environment, but comment as follows:
– As the police see it today, there is no reason for others to feel unsafe after this incident, says Svarholt.
The police attorney does not rule out that they will ask for tips in the case, something they will return to tomorrow.
– It is still so early in the investigation that we consider it important to spend the afternoon and the morning to have a clearer idea of the course of events and time, Svarholt tells Dagbladet.
Receive assistance from Kripos
Currently, the police do not want to say anything about the circumstances at the scene. At present, the police attorney also does not have an overview of whether he is in control of a possible murder weapon, as he does not know the outcome of the technical investigation.
– Who reported the death?
– It was a person who is related to the deceased. But about what kind of relationship and how close they were, I don’t want to say anything about now.
The police are now conducting forensic investigations at the deceased’s apartment, and this work will continue through the weekend, the police attorney claims.
– The final forensic report will conclude with a more precise time of the murder. Police expect the final report from the Department of Forensic Medicine within the next week, says the police attorney.
Family members of the deceased have been notified.
