Police first said they were looking for two attackers, but now say they believe it was just one assailant and that he was arrested.
The police report that they are no longer suspicious, but according to French media, another person has been arrested.
The alleged perpetrator was arrested near the Bastille. Police have found what they describe as a “butcher knife” at the scene of the knife attack, writes AFP.
Le Parisien refers to him as a machete.
A mysterious object was also reported, but no explosives were found.
According to Le Figaro, the alleged perpetrator was arrested around 12:45. He must have had blood on his clothes.
Two seriously injured
Four injuries were first reported, but this has now been corrected so that two have been confirmed.
They must be seriously injured.
According to France 2, the two injured will work for the production company Premières Lignes. The television company produces documentaries and engages in investigative journalism.
It should be a man and a woman.
The police have cordoned off a large area. This includes the former premises of Charlie Hebdo, which was attacked by terrorists in 2015. In this attack 12 people died.
Nine schools in the immediate area were asked to keep children indoors.
Attack in 2015
The knife attack takes place at the same time as the trial against several of the alleged accomplices in the Hebdo attack begins. 14 people have been charged after the 2015 terrorist attack.
Brothers Cherif and Said Kouachi broke into Charlie Hebdo’s office with automatic weapons on January 7, 2015. They were killed by police in a shooting two days later.
The widows of the two attackers in 2015 were scheduled to testify on Friday.
When the trial began, the magazine reprinted a controversial cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad.
