OSLO (VG) His Majesty King Harald (83) was admitted to Rikshospitalet on Friday morning. The cause was heavy breathing, but covid-19 is already ruled out.

On Friday morning, the Royal House announces that His Majesty King Harald has been admitted to the National Hospital in Oslo. The king, who turned 83 in February, is on sick leave in connection with admission.

– The reason was heavy breathing. The king is now under investigation. Covid-19 is already excluded, writes the Royal House on its website.

The admission means that Crown Prince Haakon will take over the king’s duties on short notice.

In the early hours of Friday, there were several ambulances and bodyguard cars at Bygdø Kongsgård in Oslo. Two ambulances and two bodyguard cars made their way shortly after to Rikshospitalet, where King Harald is now hospitalized.

Queen Sonja visited the king on Friday morning. The VG reporter outside Rikshospitalet testified around 10:45 that the queen left the hospital by car.

Ministers want a good recovery

On Friday, the king had to cancel the regular audience with Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H).

“I wish the king a good recovery,” the prime minister told VG.

Labor Party leader Jonas Gahr Støre, who presented the party’s program for the next legislature on Friday morning, also wishes King Harald a good recovery:

– There are many in Norway today who think about this: I want to point out from our side that we wish the king a good recovery, says Støre, stating that the incident has impressed many, including himself.

King Harald’s inauguration means that Crown Prince Haakon headed the cabinet on Friday morning.

The leader of the Christian People’s Party, Kjell Ingolf Ropstad, was one of those who should have known the king as a minister.

– I wish King Harald a good recovery, writes in a text message to VG.

Culture Minister Abid Raja (V) will also meet the King as Minister at the Palace:

– The King represents all of Norway in an exceptionally inclusive and generous way, so when he is ill, we send our best wishes for a good recovery to the King, Raja writes in an SMS to VG.

The incumbent leader of the Liberal Party, Guri Melby, tells VG that he wishes the king a good recovery and hopes to see him at the solemn opening of the Storting next week.

At work on thursday

As recently as Thursday, the king was seen disembarking from the Royal Norwegian Ship in Oslo accompanied by the Queen and Crown Prince.

The King took the opportunity to thank the ship’s crew for a pleasant and eventful season during the final line-up, the Royal House states on their website.

Due to the crown pandemic, there have been fewer official trips with the Royal Ship this year, but the royal family have still had the opportunity to use the ship during the summer, including in Lofoten.

Should have been in Lillehammer

On Friday at 4pm, King Harald and Queen Sonja were to be present at Maihaugen in Lillehammer during the celebration that Tuengen allé 1b, which is the queen’s childhood home, has been completed.

– So far we have received confirmation from the Palace that the Queen is coming and that the event is going as planned, Inland County Governor Communications Manager Karianne Stordal tells VG.

The Royal House also writes in the program on its website that the queen will be present at the celebration.
