Three people at Kvam herad in Hardanger have been diagnosed with covid-19.

This happens after a tour bus party spent the night at a hotel in Norheimsund from Sunday to Monday.

News came in on Tuesday that most of the bus passengers had been diagnosed with covid-19. So far, 33 of the 40 on board have tested positive.

The bus party spent the night at the Sandven hotel, and the three infected people in Kvam are connected to the hotel.

Kvam herad is now introducing a series of measures to limit the outbreak:

  • Kvam Upper Secondary School is closed for a week, until Thursday of next week
  • One class at Norheimsund school and one department at Norheimsund kindergarten will be closed until Monday.
  • Kvam herad employees are asked to have a home office, if they can. This currently applies to Fridays and Mondays.
  • Thursday’s additional youth council meeting will be canceled.

The hotel closes

Also, Thon Hotel Sandven is closed, following the advice of Kvam herad. The three infected are close contacts of those infected on the bus and / or hotel employees.

170 locals were at Thon Hotel Sandven on Monday, the same day the group of retirees traveled, but later in the evening.

These locals were touring the new part of the hotel, which recently opened. They were locked into groups to follow infection control rules.

– Six employees are in quarantine. They are the ones who have been in contact with guests, hotel manager Arnstein Birkeland told NRK on Wednesday.

The municipality has appointed staff

The municipality is now working on infection tracking and is trying to get an overview of the close contacts of infected people.

– We have staff here. Extensive infection tracking work is now underway, where we need to check who has been in close contact with those who have been diagnosed with an infection, says Mayor Torgeir Næss, the mayor of Kvam, to NRK.

There is a lot going on on the coronation phone in the Kvam ER. 14 people in Kvam were tested yesterday, and that’s

– We must bear in mind that there are more infected people. Measures other than the ones we have implemented will be continually evaluated in due course, says Næss.

Quarantine cafeteria

Bus passengers must also have passed through Åkrafjordtunet on Etne on Monday from 2pm to 3pm for dinner. The six Åkrafjordtunet employees who were in contact with the travel group are under quarantine and will be examined on Friday, says Etne Municipality Mayor Mette Heidi Bergsvik Ekrheim.

– We have also tracked 19 other people from other municipalities who have been quarantined as a result of this visit to Åkrafjordtunet.

– We are very concerned now that these employees will be infected, when we look at the situation in Kvam. Nowhere else in the municipality, except Åkrafjordtunet, is it closed, he says.
