NEW YORK (Dagbladet): Large crowds took to the streets Wednesday night in Louisville in Kentucky, New York and other US cities after a grand jury ruled on the Breonna Taylor case.

Two police officers were shot during protests in Louisville, police said, according to MSNBC.

The two are in the hospital and the condition is not yet known.

Police have now cordoned off the area around where they were shot, reports CNN.

A defendant

Breonna Taylor, 26, was shot and killed when three police officers were conducting a search of her Louisville apartment on March 13 of this year. Along with, among other things, the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, she was one of the victims for which hundreds of thousands of Americans demonstrated in the early summer.

On Wednesday, a police officer was charged in the case. He is accused of having acted in a dangerous way, but not of murder. The other two police officers who participated in the search, which led to the shooting, will not be charged.

Curfew

The city has imposed a curfew after 9 pm local time for fear of unrest. Throughout the night, there were several minor clashes between the police and the protesters. Television images showed some small fires.

Following news of the shooting, which occurred just before curfew, many of the protesters are said to have fled the area, according to MSNBC.

The police have scheduled a press conference.
