A police officer was charged in connection with the shooting, which killed Breonna Taylor, 26, on March 13 in Louisville, Kentucky, this year.

The other two police officers who participated in the search, which led to the shooting, will not be charged.

A state grand jury announced Norwegian time on Wednesday night.

Now the decision is expected to be the subject of large demonstrations in Louisville and has already drawn strong reactions from Taylor’s family.

The policeman in question is accused of having endangered the lives of others by his reckless behavior. The investigation on which the grand jury has based its decision shows that the accused police officer no fired the shots that cost Taylor his life.

This was stated by Daniel Cameron, Kentucky’s chief prosecutor, during a press conference shortly after the decision was known.

He further said that the investigation, however, shows that the accused police officer endangered the lives of other people when he shot at Taylor’s apartment through a window without a clear view. Several of the shots hit the neighboring apartment.

The other two police officers who have been under investigation were the ones who shot Taylor. However, the investigation establishes that they acted in self-defense, because Taylor’s girlfriend shot the police first.

The investigation has formed a very detailed picture of what happened in Taylor’s apartment on March 13 and the motive for the shooting.

It was previously reported that the police carried out the so-called “do not hit order”, that is, a search in which the police do not have to make themselves known before taking action.

Police were allowed to conduct a search, but a contentious issue has been whether the police properly identified themselves before entering Taylor’s apartment.

The investigation now concludes that the police did just that successfully, and supports the conclusion with the police officers ‘own statements, as well as an independent witness confirming the police officers’ claim, according to prosecutor Cameron.

When the police did not receive a response, they decided to enter the department.

Then Taylor and Taylor’s boyfriend were standing in the hallway, the latter with a gun in hand. The girlfriend then shot the police and then explained that he thought it was thieves who had broken into the apartment.

The two cops who have not been charged later responded to fire from Taylor’s girlfriend, the investigation shows. The girlfriend was not injured in the shooting, while Taylor was shot more than 10 times.

– It’s one of the many things that makes this a tragedy, said the prosecutor Cameron about the fact.

Police took action against Taylor’s apartment after receiving a tip that drugs were at the location. This turned out to be wrong.

Taylor’s deaths this spring contributed to the massive protests against police violence and racism that have plagued the United States this year and the Black Lives Matter movement.

And now the jury’s decision will likely contribute to large-scale demonstrations, not just in Louisville, but across the state and perhaps the rest of the country.

The New York Times reports that several Kentucky cities are preparing for the demonstrations. Parts of downtown Louisville are entrenched, awaiting what police fear could degenerate into riots.

Just minutes after the grand jury’s decision was known, there were strong reactions from protesters who had already gathered in the city center.

“Is that all?” Shouted several protesters at the scene, according to the New York Times. Some cursed, others suggested burning the city, while other people burst into tears.

The Taylor family’s attorney took to Twitter when the decision emerged.

“This is outrageous and offensive!” He wrote.

City officials have imposed a curfew starting at 9:00 p.m. local time, reports CNN’s live broadcasts from Louisville.
