The new hero of Solskjær

Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Manchester United got off to a terrible start in the Premier League, when the team lost 1-3 to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Already Tuesday night, he was ready for a new challenge. This time Luton Town was the opponent in the third round of the league cup.

United were a big favorite and got off to a good start at Kenilworth Road. Juan Mata put the guests ahead in the 44th minute. Brandon Williams was fouled and Mata was safe from the penalty spot.

Luton heroically defended in the second half. Just two minutes before the end, Marcus Rashford pulled it off when he teamed up with Mason Greenwood and put the nail in the coffin.

Greenwood made it 3-0 in the 90th minute.

Solskjær replaced David de Gea with Dean Henderson in goal. He has been loaned to Sheffield United and he did very well. Ten minutes before the end, he made a feverish 1-0 save at United. The local Manchester Evening News gives him the best rating of all in the player exchange: eight out of ten points.

United dominated the first half. Luton Town plays in the Championship and is in third place after two rounds.

Solskjær made ten substitutions in the match against Crystal Palace. Only captain Harry Maguire was left in the starting lineup. Henderson is seen as Old Trafford’s number one long-term finalist.

Another penalty kick was necessary before the team scored in the first half. George Moncur was not overjoyed to have to give up Brandon Williams.

1-0 just before the break is never bad. But Luton was in every way in the fight.

Since the start of last season, United have conceded 23 penalties and scored 19 of them in all competitions. There are more than any other team in England.

Neither team made changes during the break. And obviously it was good for the Solskjær players, the vast majority of second options at their positions, to get a pass.

United seemed to be in control all the time.

Ten minutes before the end, Henderson showed what he was good at when he saved a shot from close range off a set piece. United fled in horror.

Shortly after, Marcus Rahsford made it 2-0. It went very well with Greenwood.

Then it was Greenwood’s turn. 3-0. And points. United face Preston or Brighton in the next round.
