It may be time before the two Hungarian handball players recover from Kristiansand after the positive corona test. According to Vipers’ management, one of the players fell ill on Saturday.

This weekend’s Champions League match between Vipers and Ferencvaros (FTC) was halted when two of the players tested positive for a crown. Now two, nameless players, are left alone in Sørlandet.

Infection control doctor Priscilla Hilton in Kristiansand confirms the case. He states that one of the players has no corona symptoms and has an “expected 10-day quarantine period.”

– 1 with respiratory symptoms that must be removed from quarantine after clinical evaluation, Hilton writes in a text message to VG. He states that the handball player is not hospitalized.

The staff at Scandic Bystranda, right next to the Vipers Aquarama arena, are basically responsible for the two players getting what they need in quarantine.

– Our two remaining players in Norway are going through a difficult time, FTC director Laszlo Bognar tells the club’s website. It also says:

– We do our best to get them home asap.

– It is very boring that the game is not played. At the same time, I’m also very happy that it was discovered early on that two of the FTC players were infected and that neither of us at Vipers were, Vipers veteran Marta Tomac tells Fædrelandsvennen.

According to Terje Marcussen at the club, it was a while before the test results came from the FTC leadership on Friday. The vipers realized that something was wrong.

– We isolated them immediately and put the rest of the team under house arrest in the room, says the general manager.

With the help of the Hungarian embassy in Oslo, the FTC still chartered a charter plane on Saturday that carried the rest of the troop back to Budapest.

– The municipal doctor was very clear that the game should not be played. It was also the Norwegian Handball Association. As long as there is a risk of infection, it could also ruin the Rema 1000 league here in Norway. We didn’t want to take risks and we didn’t want to play the game, says Marcussen.

Also before the Champions League match between Romanian Valcea and Danish Odense, there was a crown drama last weekend. The star players of the local team, the Serbian Kristina Liscevic and the Spanish Mireya González, tested positive. So did Valcea’s assistant coach, according to Looksport.

Still, the game was played. Odense won with Norwegian Malene Aambakk on the team.

– Obviously, Romania has other rules. There was also a discussion about whether our match could be played when the two players were isolated. But the municipal doctor was not close to such a conclusion, says Terje Marcussen in Vipers.
