I had to cancel the landing

The remnants of Tropical Storm Sally are devastating the Nordland coast. The hazard warning has been updated to the orange level, in the municipality of Rana 1,200 people are isolated and the roads, ferries and Nordlandsbanen are closed.

This afternoon Widerøe Flight 855 from Tromsø via Stokmarknes to Bodø felt the wind gusts. The plane was close to landing at Vesterålen airport, writes NRK.

But, as the video on the top of the box shows, the wind became too strong.

– The force of the wind increased and became so strong that they had to interrupt the landing, rise back into the air and then fly directly to Bodø, communications manager Catharina Solli in Widerøe tells the state channel.

According to Avinor, Flight 855 landed in Bodø at 5:26 p.m.

Earlier in the day, gusts of wind also led Trond-Arnt Trondsen to witness a sensational landing at Bodø Airport.

– With that time I usually be there, it is very spectacular to see there. The Widerøe riders are good and this is probably just routine for them. No matter how harmless it is, it’s fun to watch, Trondsen tells Dagbladet.

Trondsen, who filmed the landing a little over 2 p.m., says it’s especially at the end that you should watch the video closely, as a ball of wind hits the plane just before it lands.

Avisa Nordland was the first to mention the case.

– Those who fly in northern Norway are very used to this climate, but it is just as spectacular to see at all times, Trondsen tells the newspaper.

Communications manager Solli told the newspaper that the company’s pilots are used to hard landings.

– This is another routine landing for our pilots. They are unfamiliar with the weather and wind, but they still know their own limitations and those of the airplane. Pilots always stay within the limits of what the aircraft can withstand, says Solli.
