Raymond Johansen, head of the Oslo City Council, calls the infection situation in Oslo serious and says that if the spread of the infection continues, very strict measures must be reintroduced.

– We must stop this development, and we must do it now, he says during a press conference on Monday afternoon.

Red

As Dagbladet mentioned today, all 15 districts of Oslo are red. The most affected are the districts of Old Oslo, St. Hanshaugen and Sagene, with more than 100 infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days.

The district chief physician in Old Oslo, Irene Teslo, told Dagbladet on Saturday that they have seen cases of infection among 70-year-olds in the Old Oslo district. At the same time, it is still observed that it is mainly young adults in their 20s who are infected in Oslo and Norway.

– Many in this age group have mild symptoms and do not get as seriously ill. But they can also infect many people. We have had infected young people and around 250 close contacts. So it goes without saying that detecting infection can be very difficult, says Raymond Johansen.

– Better control

– For many, the feeling has probably crept in that this is not so dangerous. That it does not affect me or my loved ones, says the leader of the city council, who affirms that “yes” and refers to how the pandemic affects society.

– The more people who don’t care, the worse the consequences will be for those most affected.

The last time Oslo had such high infection rates was in April, he says, but at the same time he believes “we have not gone back to the beginning.”

– We have better control, he says and refers to the ability to test and new knowledge about the virus, says Johansen.

Squeeze

The Oslo municipality is now fine-tuning its recommendation on how many people can meet in private homes.

– Starting tomorrow at 12 o’clock, a ban is applied in Oslo against the gathering of more than 10 people in private homes.

Initially, the ban will last for two weeks. In addition, the municipality will consider a temporary ban on indoor events with more than 50 people.

The municipality wants a better overview and gives a strong recommendation to all restaurants to register all guests.

This applies to everything from pubs to Ikea cafe, says the town hall leader.

– You, who run a restaurant, should have an overview of all the people who have visited it, so that infection detection can be carried out as efficiently as possible, he says.

Bus strike

The ongoing bus strike hits public transport hard and caused congestion in several places on Monday. Another 4,500 bus drivers have joined the 3,800 drivers who have already stopped working.

– It goes without saying that crowded streetcars during a pandemic increase the risk of infection, says Johansen.

The municipality strongly encourages the use of masks on public transportation at all times. In the past, the recommendation was to use a mask when it was difficult to maintain a distance of one meter.

– Now there is a lot of pressure on public transport in Oslo, so we recommend everyone to stay home if they can, says councilor for the environment and transport agency Lan Marie Berg to Dagbladet.

She says that everyone must take responsibility for ensuring that the infection does not increase in the city.

– Avoid public transport if it is not necessary, and if necessary, keep your distance and wear a bandage. We are completely dependent on everyone in the city taking responsibility for the situation.
