The majority on the nominating committee for the FRP in Aust-Agder will not have Parliamentary representative Åshild Bruun-Gundersen of Arendal as the party’s main candidate in next fall’s elections.

She was chosen for the Storting for the first time in 2017.

Three of the members are in favor of Marius Nilsen from Grimstad. Two support Bruun-Gundersen.

– The majority on the committee wanted another first candidate. I respect him, says leader Lene Langemyr.

It will not say who voted to reject Bruun-Gundersen, or what the reason is.

– This was the topic of discussion in the nominating committee and remains on the committee, she says.

No support in hometown

The Arendal Frp leader says the home team did not have Åshild Bruun-Gundersen on the list they sent to the nominating committee.

– The party wants Andreas Arff first, but we also had Marius Nilsen at the top of our list, says leader Maurith Fagerland.

Why don’t you support Bruun-Gundersen, who is from Arendal?

– We want to orient politics a bit more towards the national liberal side, and not in the way that Åshild and some others want to go. It is a political stance.

– Some of us will turn to what Carl I. Hagen created. But of course Åshild has gotten good over the years she’s been in parliament. That way, I understand someone wanting her.

– He won the competition

Grimstad’s leading candidate Marius Nilsen says he was shocked when he saw he was nominated as number one.

– Åshild has done a good job. But if the party ends with them coming for me first, then I’m good to go.

Langemyr on the nominating committee emphasizes that this is only the first round.

What do you think this ends with?

– It is too early to say what the end result will be. It will be decided at the nomination meeting in late November.

Does this mean that there will be a dispute over the nomination at Frp again?

– Our party is used to competing for seats.

The draft should be sent to local teams for consultation.

The final recommendation will be presented on October 12.

NRK has reached out to Bruun-Gundersen, who has yet to respond.
