The Molde forward was not happy with what the team showed against Vålerenga. In a few days, the first of two important Champions League playoff games awaits.

VÅLERENGA-MOLDE 2-1

INTILITY ARENA (Nettavisen): On Saturday, Molde suffered its fifth straight loss in the Eliteserien when Vålerenga got too strong in Oslo.

After the big rally in the middle of the week, where they secured promotion to the final qualifying round of the Champions League, the Moldans quickly fell back to earth after 1-2 against Vålerenga.

Especially the defensive play within his own box was something else in the Molde field that was disappointed after Saturday’s game.

In addition to Vidar Örn Kjartansson and Aron Dønnum being allowed to go unmarked and scoring their own goals, the former also provided a penalty kick to the home team after a boring defensive play from Molde.

– does not focus

A long play by the Vålerenga goalkeeper, Kristoffer Klaesson, passed over everything and everyone. Kjartansson ended suddenly and thus John Kitolano had to resort to illegal means to stop the Icelander.

The situation led to Kitolano being sent off with a red card. The Vålerenga striker missed the chance from the penalty spot, but the Molde defense effort still became an issue.

The online newspaper tried to get a comment from the Molde defender, but was quickly informed that Kitolano was far down and that he had exited down the secondary street and got directly into the player’s bus outside the stadium.

However, one of those who took the time to speak was Molde striker Ohi Omoijuanfo. He thought his teammates at the back of the field just weren’t focused enough.

– We don’t have enough focus as a team. Especially on the road, we have loosened a bit. We need to be wiser. We simply have to act, a critic Ohi Omoijuanfo tells Nettavisen after the match.

The forward explains that the team in terms of play generated quite a few great chances to win the game, but that again there was a lack of concentration in front of his own goalkeeper in important moments.

– We do not establish our possibilities, there are also two key situations in which we are not sufficiently concentrated. The first goal they take a quick free kick and enter. We don’t follow Kjartansson there. In the penalty situation, there is a shot from the goalkeeper and there will never be such a great opportunity. That’s what we focus on, where we should take better care of those situations, he says.

The Molde’s coach, Erling Moe, was also not particularly satisfied with the team’s efforts.

– We are late in the changes and we will stay to act later in the 0-1 goal. We are not present enough. We are too slow, Erling Moe tells Nettavisen.

Fighting away

Saturday’s loss was Molde’s fifth at the Eliteserien this season. Until Bodø / Glimt, there is now a difference of 13 points before they play their match later on Sunday.

– Of course it’s disappointing. We want to win, but it is clear that it will be difficult when we receive a red card at the beginning of the second round. It will be difficult outside the home, Ohi explains.

Although he thinks the team could have defended better, he wasn’t sure whether the red card could have been somewhat strict.

– I am in a worse situation than the judge, but from my point of view it seems cheap. I can’t say much but I heard several in the locker room felt he was strict, he says and continues.

– We’ll take care of Kitolano. Today I was incredibly disappointed, that’s understandable.

Molde made several changes to defense since the midweek match in Champions League qualifying. Martin Bjørnbak has been out for a long time with injury and got his first minutes on the pitch in almost two months.

– Was it a game of chance to put a plug that has been out for so long considering the way Kjartansson was?

– No I dont think so. It was important for us, as we have been very thin in the two middle positions of the stop for a long time. It was important to us that Bjørnbak worked again, explains Moe.

The stopper was replaced during the break against Vålerenga. According to Bjørnbak and Moe, this had been agreed in advance.

Pain to lose against Vålerenga

Ohi has come out in previous deals and has filed a complaint against Vålerenga. The forward from Holmlia, south of Oslo, admits that Saturday’s loss feels a bit more on the body.

– Since I played six years at Lillestrøm also, I feel a little more about it. It’s always fun to meet Vålerenga, but it’s a shame the fans can’t be in the stands. Give a little more. Hopefully they can come back soon, says Ohi.

In 2018, he was also linked to the club. Then he went to the media and confirmed the interest, but told VG that “it was not very relevant and that the first option was to go abroad.” Later he signed in place of Molde.

In last year’s match, he also met the anger of the Oslo team fans after celebrating a goal.

In addition, he stated in 2017 that “the children of Oslo are thrown away and treated like garbage. The people of Oslo don’t like Vålerenga as much as people think, ”in an interview with Nettavisen.

– Does it hurt a little more to lose against Vålerenga?

– If it does. For me, it’s always very nice to beat Vålerenga, concludes Ohi.
