Ingebrigtsen won by 13 seconds – VG

Jakob Ingebrigtsen celebrated his goodbye to life as a teenager by winning the NM title number four in a row in the 1500 meters on Saturday afternoon. Ingebrigtsen was furious from the start and sharply distanced himself from the competitors immediately.

It looked like he was going to put pressure on Karsten Warholm in the battle for the King’s Cup and he was also chasing a good time on par with what he has accomplished in the Diamond League. 3.33.93 was another cannon race for Ingebrigtsen and a record in what became a solo race from start to finish.

– I would have tried to stop him if I had known what he was going to try today, says Gjert Ingebrigtsen to VG and other media about his son, who two days ago sniffed the European record of 3000 meters during the Diamond League competition in Rome.

– He can’t have taken him in, in Rome. Because you can’t take a 3000 meter and then come here two days later to do this, next time you have to take it when you are in the Diamond League. It would have been nice if it had been a bit influenced, says Gjert Ingebrigtsen humorously.

He claims that the son kept his plan a secret before the start.

Gjert Ingebrigtsen was excited about Jakob Ingebrigtsen’s 800-meter race.

– He recovers enormously quickly, he says from behind the microphone in the press area. During the hour after the strong 1500 meter race, Jakob Ingebrigtsen ran to victory in his 800 meter series with 1.54.87. Sunday is the final.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen himself was brilliantly satisfied after the 1500 meters.

– That is very good. I have had a goal of running faster than last year. Then I ran 3.36 (NM in Hamar). It’s hard to run like this alone. This is what he had decided to do, Ingebrigtsen tells NRK after the race.

Former great runner Bernard Lagat’s track record set 16 years ago was 3.34.08.

– You get a little tunnel vision in the race itself. But certainly, as a performer, you miss the audience. They are the ones who help us first and foremost, says Ingebrigtsen.

NRK expert Vebjørn Rodal was very impressed with Ingebrigtsen during the race.

– It’s huge. Show your level, says Vebjørn Rodal during the race when the 20-year-old crushed the competitors.

– It’s almost unrealistically high, added Rodal about Ingebrigtsen’s level.

Three years ago he won by a margin of one second to number two, the following year by four seconds, in 2019 by eight seconds. At Fana Stadium, he crossed the finish line 13 seconds ahead of number two Mats Hauge who ran at the 3.46.99 finish after three laps and 300 meters. Number three was Moa Abounnachat Bollerød with 3.47.47.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is together with father and coach Gjert Ingebrigtsen and mother Tone alone to represent “Team Ingebrigtsen” during this year’s NM crown amputation track and field, which is the only track and field championship in 2020 after cancellation of the European Championships and the postponement of the Olympic Games.

Like Karsten Warholm, who will run the final in the 400m hurdles on Sunday, Jakob Ingebrigtsen has lined up one major race after another during the short crown season. The highlight is his 1500 meters in Monaco just over a month ago.

Then the current European champion from Norway in the 1500 and 5000 meters ran for the first time below the “dream limit” of 1500 meters. With a time of 3.28.68, he erased Mo Farah’s European record (3.28.81).

Karsten Warholm ends the racing season on Sunday. Jakob Ingebrigtsen may want to do it with a street race later this fall.
