The shipping company informed NRK in late August that its original plan was to bring all 11 ships back into service by the end of September.

So the assessment was that at least they should not sail with more than the six ships they have so far sailed along the coast.

Now it cuts more.

In consultation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications, they have now decided that they will initially operate the coastal route between Bergen and Kirkenes with only two ships until the end of October.

Today there are five in traffic. With two ships on schedule, the 34 ports will be called every five and six days.

The reason is travel restrictions, which means there are very few guests.

– We cannot sail with almost empty ships. Therefore, we, like other transport players, must reduce capacity, says press manager Øystein Knoph at Hurtigruten to NRK.

The two ships that will continue sailing will be MS Kong Harald and MS Polarlys.

The other ships are out of service when they reach Bergen.

The first ship out of service is the MS Richard With, which goes out of service on September 26. After that, MS “Trollfjord” (September 28), MS “Midnatsol” (October 1) and MS “Nordlys” (October 2) will be off-road.

According to Hurtigruten, the MS “Finnmarken” has already been taken out of service for technical reasons.

“Unfortunately, this means that more colleagues than we expected will not be able to work this fall,” Knoph told Hurtigruten to NRK.

Sjømannsforbundet: – Sad and sad

This is how the Norwegian Seafarers Association describes the news from Hurtigruten.

– It is sad that we now end up in a situation where our Hurtigruten colleagues end up with further layoffs. This is because, as far as I know, the supply of travelers is absent due to the situation in the crown, says union leader Johnny Hansen.

He says that they would rather see that all ships were fully crewed and that the Ministry of Transport was willing to increase the purchase price.

On Friday, the ministry added new millions to Widerøe, SAS and Norwegian.

– Read that the Ministry of Transportation expands the purchase of services to airlines. Hopefully they would come in with more funds so that the Hurtigruten could operate more ships during this period as well, he says.

The group’s leader in Hurtigruten, Daniel Skjeldam, received the same question seven times in a row on Thursday’s Dagsnytt 18, but declined to answer that question. At the previous press conference, he said that he takes responsibility for the outbreak aboard “Roald Amundsen.”
